View Full Version : Question for Canon users
I own a Canon GL2, but am unhappy with not having an interchangeable lens system. So, I'm either wanting to get a 35mm adapter, or buy an XL2. What do you recommend I do? I know I will probably have some responses telling me to go HD, but I can't afford a $3000 camera right now. What would be the best route? keep my GL2 and get a 35mm adapter, or buy an XL2?
what lenses were you planning on using with the xl2? not 35mm primes, right?

Hmm, I'm not sure how much research you've done, but it would help if you could explain why you're looking for interchangible lenses, as this is a rather complicated question.
If you are looking for a shallow DOF, or a more filmic look, then the XL2 will only help you so far as it's 24p mode. Although it does have interchangible lenses, the lenses are made for 1/3 inch chips, and will provide a very different look than a 35mm adapter with EOS lenses for example.
You also mention that you can't afford a 3000 dollar camera. While you can pick up a used XL2 for anywhere from 1800-3000 or so, have you thought about the cost of additional lenses for this camera? There are only a few options, and all of them are rather pricey.
Setting HD aside, If you don't care about 24p or the filmic look, and just want interchangible lenses for the sake of different focal lengths and such, then you may want to check out an XL1 or XL1s. These are basically a beefed up GL2 with interchangible lenses. You can get a used one easily for 1500 or less.
I hope that helps point you in the right direction.

go for an adapter the GL2 is great, I have one and it just needs that filmic look to be top notch. :)
