Hi there. Next week I will be working for the first time with my EX1 on a high pressure enviroment. I will need to deliver 4 two minute videos a day on H264 at Standard Definition, so it doesn't matter the original definition. So what I'm wondering is which is the best way to do it with the EX1.
I will be editing on a MacBook Pro w/ 2Ghz Intel Core Duo and 2 GB RAM.
What I'm wondering is which format is less processor intensive, is it VBR 35mbps 1080P, 720P or 25mbps 1080i ?
Since I have to deliver 480 then it's ok to shoot any format
Hope you guys can help

When you're recording SQ, it's the same has HDV. So if you've had some success with using HDV then you'll be comfortable with it.
Does the H264 footage need to be interlaced or progressive?
Downsizing to 480 can be tricky (believe it or not). I would do some testing using the software tools you have available to you. (you didn't list them)
I would assume that CBR (Constant Bite Rate) 25mbps would be easier on your system, but if it's a significant difference I don't know. I haven't had any trouble editing with either of them. I HAVE had trouble going from HD to SD, but it's mostly transcoding finished projects with graphics and such. The plain video always seems to transcode pretty well.

I've compressed to H.264 many times, but you never said whether it needs to be interlaced or not.
Since you have Final Cut Pro, then I would assume you have Compressor. I would test using Compressor. Under the Advanced settings you'll find format conversions from HD to SD which is what you'll want. You can also modify the Compressor settings for that preset to deinterlace the footage if necessary.
There are also presets to compress to H264. Should be self-explanatory.
Good luck! :)
