Without getting into a debate over the IR issue. Did anyone talk to a Sony rep at NAB about the IR issue. Did Sony offer any suggestions or fixes besides the ones we have all talked about.

I have talked with a local pro service shop and they were amazed that Sony let this one go by. According to them it is something that can easily be fixed at little cost to Sony. The key is to have the filter behind the lens. If you have ever removed the lens off an EX3, that piece of glass that protect the imaging block could have the filter built in.

i tend to think this is true. my dslr has an IR filter in front of the sensor. this is not a sony issue. this is a cmos issue. but there must be some reason they left it off. RED has the same problem. nothing a hot mirror won't fix.

Is it a CMOS issue? I just recently ran into the issue with my 100b and dvc60. I was also shooting with a Canon A1 at the time and it didn't have the issue. Very strange.......

Given there are many CMOS based cameras in the world that do not suffer from such an issue it can not be "a CMOS issue". It is inadequate filtering on the sensors.

It is not limited to CMOS chips. It is, as guy says, inadequate IR filtering on the chips.

I've said in many posts on multiple boards that in Jan 08 I shot the keynote at MacWorld SF with my HVX200. Steve Jobs looked great in his muddy brown turtleneck. Not just a CMOS issue. Sony EX cameras seem prone to it; I'll be putting an HPX-300 through its paces soon.

My HVR-V1U doesn't have that issue either. It's also CMOS.

Same with my Sony HC7, also CMOS.
