I'm an oldschool DVX user, but had to sell my camera last year. I'm looking to get back into making some films now that I'm not so poor, and am looking at the HVX200, HPX170 or HMC150 to purchase. Considering the HPX170 is more expensive, I'm figuring it's the better option if I can afford it. It's got a lot of nice new features over the HVX200, but is it worth the money over the HMC?

Does it also lose any features the HVX200 has, like framerates, quality, etc? Am I better off buying an HVX200, or does it pretty much become obselete?

I've been out of the game for a while but am pretty excited to make a new purchase and start making some films again, along with upgrading my lighting equipment list. Thanks for any input.

170 is like the HVX rev-A without SD mode or tape drive. HMC has the same image sensor as 170 (same image quality) but does not have variable frame rate other than the standard 24p, 30p, and 60i. The HMC also lacks a time-lapse mode which the 170 has. Recording media and codec is different between the two obviously..

Seeing that you're in Canada, you might want to be look into the fact that the 170 and 150 both are plagued with sticky focus ring when shooting in moderately cold temperatures.. The focus ring is a huge step back from what you're used to with your DVX. See the active thread in this forum for details.
