Why has Panasonic hobbled the 302 to 50Hz operation only, when the 301 UK model gets 50Hz and 60Hz? It just seems incongruous. I do a lot of work for US clients and could get more if I had a dual switchable camera like the 300. The downside for Australian Panasonic dealers is that buyers may source their cameras from Europe to get the dual system capability.

Every territory gets a single-mode camera, except the UK. For some reason the UK gets switchable units, but the asian, american, chinese, and japanese units are all single-mode. The american one can be upgraded by the factory at an additional cost.

Welcome to the boat Aussies! ;-) North American users have been moaning about this for years now. If this is important to you, buy a 301, it is the only option for you. I believe that only U.S. residents can obtain the 300 upgrade to a a 50/60Hz camera?

Thanks Barry. I wish I knew that reason too... If I go down the path to a 300, I may have to look at the US option. I'm guess that will still be cheaper than a UK-sourced dual-ready 301.

I don't know Peter, there have been some screaming deals on HPX171s from U.K. dealers lately, you might find a really hot deal on the 301 if you hunt carefully.

Talk to panasonic aus, i know when the HPX172 came out i was offered an HPX171 if i wanted a switchable unit by panasonic NZ, if you really need the switchability they might be able to do something.

Peter, you should contact Rob Myers at Panasonic Australia. I talked to him about this just this week and he seemed to feel that he could help.

Best,

Jan

Hi Les,

Yes, long time DVCPRO50 user. I love my SDX900 but really want to stop hiring HD's and buy my own. Sigh....

Cheers,
Peter

Cool... I picked up one of the 2nd batch of 20 HVX202 when it came out... been a trusty and versatile camera.. did a doco on the Snowy River with it (why I bought the camera)... which has won a bunch of Festivals around the world... http://www.youtube.com/user/LesHerstik

Still trying to get a national release for it here in Oz.. but ... so far have only found Community Television support... tricky story the whole water debate...

Looking forward to using the Dedo as my hair light rather than a home made halogen set-up...

Cheers

Remember Les, you need a dimmer for the Dedo. Keep a look out for one of the DTR-12 or DT-24 transformers which can run multiple Dedos. I've seen them under a grand on eBay.

Yes docos in Australia are a sorry state. I just did one, "Live the Dream" about golf that was shown three times on Fox during February. They didn't pay one cent for it. Sponsors picked up the production costs. And we had a tight budget...

Yeah thanks.... I've got a shoot on in Sydney on Thursday... leaving tomorrow for recce..

Though I'd try and pick-up a dimmer at John Barry's... I think the 12v are about $300...

Had to buy one for a friend a few years back after I broke his...

Cheers
