So here's my deal. I have 2 hvx-200's and a redrock. I would like a small battery powered monitor for the field. Right now I either use my macbook pro or my 24in dell with component inputs when I'm in the studio or controlled environment. I always shoot 720p24n so the firewire deal with my laptop is problematic. I also don't like the microx flip. Makes the camera way too bulky and I like to shoot handheld as much as possible. I've ben doing some research about 5-8in monitors and the name that keep coming up in my pricerange (which is hopefully under a grand for everything , sunshade mounting arm yada yada) are the ikan. So is the ikan with the panasonic battery plate a viable option for me? Has anyone used anything from manhattan lcd? Just getting a little overwhelmed and need to purchase one asap. Anyone know of anything awesome coming out soon that I should wait for? Don't want to paint myself into a corner like I always do with technology purchases. Thanks to anyone who can help.
I feel your pain. I went from buying the vari-zoom monitor to the Ikan 5.6
which I like but it stills has some issues that leave it not being the best purchase for me.
I am thinking of returning it for the marshall monitor that is a little bit more but has features that I want ( peaking and color calibration)
And a thousand dollars later I should be happy ?

I'm attending NAB this coming Tuesday 21st. Two pieces of equipment of interest
for me are a 7" LCD HD monitor and a 35mm adapter.
I was all set to purchase the Nebtek back in Feb. Then I heard Marshall was coming out with
an HD SDI connector. So I decided to wait until I got a chance
to see them demo'd before making any decisions.
As far as the 35mm adapter's go, there's about 5 or 6 to really consider. Looking
forward to the "candy store" next week.
With that said, good luck on your quest. I'm sure there will be a lot more info after
next week.
Best.

I use a manhattan LCD. I use it strictly for focusing and framing. It does lack good image calibration controls though, that's the downside.

Just talked to manhattan and they said that their monitors don't support 24pn playback. Bummer, was looking to buy one. Anyone tested this out?

that's weird, because I shoot almost exclusively in 24p and I can monitor and playback just fine?

I figured it would but the guy I talked to didn't want to chance selling me one. Oh well, just bought the ikan with panasonic battery plate, monitor arm and sunshade for about 800 bucks, so hopefully that'll work out ok.
ive been using the very first ikan off the line for about 2 years now. its worked pretty much issue free.
