Went to our film festival this weekend that started in Houston and saw a digital short on the big screen shot with an ex1. it said it used the letus on it but the quality was horrible. it was shown on a christie digital projector. the other shorts shot on video looked good blown up , but this was horrible. im curious what could have happened in their process on this. was a dvd.
thanks

for all we know they took a web short & put it out to DVD...
Seriously, you really expect anyone to know how the producers stuffed it up?
Perhaps that look was exactly what the producer wanted...

Quality is dependent upon the entire processing chain. From acquisition to projection.

Someone must have fouled up somewhere.

I saw footage I shot broadcast as B-roll and it looked worse than VHS. The material, which was very sharp and nicely exposed, was provided as a digital file on a disk. But whoever did the conversion to standard definition used the worst conversion process possible.

Not everyone in the business truly knows how to handle HD.

That's why forums like this are so active. People are clamoring for knowledge and solutions.

We showed a short in Manchester, UK shot with EX1 + Letus and everyone thought it looked absolutely great.

And it was shown on a low rez projector from a DVD that was cropped, annoyingly. So it just goes to show that if you shoot it right, even if the projection isn't great it can still look good.
