I'm confused. but then I'm still waiting to receive my new HPX-170 I ordered Mrch 7th! Ugh!

Anyway. I'm hearing that HD doesn't go down FireWire. I'm hearing on the 170 if you're shooting native mode the FW is disabled.

I just got my EventDV magazine and inside was an article about this Veescope Live. (sounds to me like a cheper version of the old DV-Rack). but the author talkes about using the FW into the MBP and into FCP using the Veescope plugin. He mentions DVCPro HD

With my SD camera I'm cuirrently using the nNovia hrd drive digital recorder for back up files. nNovia tells me it won't work with DVC Pro stuff. It will do HDV (ugh! AVI; MOV and MXF.

So does the firewire work with HD or not? I Believe the Firestor uses the MXF but that log and transfer time intensive from what I understand. Nice just to drag-n-drop.

I'm getting 2 64gb P2 cards and will probably need 2 more for continuous shooting. Got the Duel adapter but due to the PciE slot locking problems on the MacBook Pro's Im considering getting a Powerbook G4 with the opld Pcmcia slot.

but I'm used to making digital backup files on my Sony DSR-250 DVCAM. Used the tape as a back uip. Why do real time capture when you can drag-n-drop?

Maybe there's digital recorder that uses the SDi port?

Thanks

You can stream HD over firewire in any mode except for the 720p Native modes -- 24pN and 30pN. You can still stream 720/24p and 720/30p, but it will be in a 60p stream instead of "native" 24p and 30p.

But there are also ways -- software, hardware -- to strip out the extra frames and record only the native streams.
