My friend is back in Canada from Japan and last night was his last night before he headed back...so a bunch of us, all went out to eat at this place called the Public House (for those that have been to Vancouver Denman and Davie, right near the beach) so were sitting there, service was pretty shitty, the place is pretty busy, were waiting and waiting, finally get some service, order some food and some drinks. I'm half way through my dinner and we hear this unbelievable crashing sound (my first reaction was someone dropped a tray of drinks), but we continue to hear glass crashing all over the place, loud as f@*k and in the corner of the restaurant, we see this woman getting pummelled by this pane of glass, there is fucking glass everywhere, smashes all over her and the table. She was sitting down so she kinda gets up to clear the glass that is all over her, and she immediately grabs her head. Just picture a packed restaurant, lots of conversations going on and then this crazy smashing sound and then dead silence, everyone was in shock for a second, one of those WTF moments.
So she's grabbing her and head and blood is pouring out, her hands are all cut up, someone jumps up grabs a cloth and helps her out, by this time were all like what the f@*k happened, trying to figure it out, she's crying, people are comforting her (this was all no more than 10 feet away), an ambulance comes they calm her down, bandage her up and then put her on a stretcher and take her to the hospital, she's still crying like crazy. I felt so bad for her, everyone staring, your head bleeding like crazy, being taken out on a stetcher, in the middle of a packed restaurant.
From what we can gather, an old 5x3 window, gave out, either from it being faulty or the wind, it was a little gusty at the time. I've heard so much glass break.
It almost seemed like she got hit by like two panes, there was so much glass, the wooden frame that hit her probably didn't help either, she is super lucking she didn't get cut on her face, eyes or even her neck, fucking crazy. The booth they were in looked like someone got shot in it.
Needless to say, I'm sure she's going to get some settlement out of it, you could see the manager was just like "ohhh f@*k" afterwords, I would also assume that their insurance rates will go through the roof, that is if the have a roof left after she sues them.
It was pretty nuts.
