View Full Version : Hvx - P2 card problem?

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem or is it not a problem.

When I’m in the field I would download my footage from my P2 card onto my laptop using the HVX as my host. After the download is competed I would switch it back to continue filming but before I can start filming the HVX would want me to re-format the card. I thought at one time I was able to add more footage to the P2 card if the card wasn’t full?

Thanks,

You can definitely keep filming on a card whether it's been offloaded or not...

So something must be wrong with either the camera or the P2 card?

did you perhaps leave it Write-Protected?

Would write protect keep it from recording the first time? The P2 card doesn't come out of the camera. I just switch from camera to laptop, download and switch back and at that point all the footage that was on the P2 card can't be read so it has to be re-formated. I don't have the camera at the moment (it is in the shop for Audio jack repair) to see what the info says when I switch it back.

If the card was full or very close to full, the camera may keep you from recording.

Interesting comment from Jan, that I was not aware of. How do you quantify "very close to full"?, and if you had two cards, shouldn't it just start, then span?

My comment wrt WP. I always WP my cards before I connect the camera to any external source, whether they are removed from the camera or not. You never know when something may try to write back to them, as they just appear as another device.

You would be able to see how full it was based on the LCD or VF display. Very close to full would mean they you only have a couple of seconds left on a card, and yes if you did have a second card it would roll over to that but only if it were empty.
