In all honesty, I can say, in complete truth... I have no idea what I'm doing.

Heck, I've made my fair share of short films, a few World War two films, shot on a Saturday (reshoots on sunday) and edited for Monday, just to mess around.
This project is different, I will have a crew, it will actually try to function like a real set, Its not place the camera down, and film, it involves lights, Sound, actors places.

And they are going to be somewhat real actors, not my two friends wearing Military gear, I can and will treat them with respect, thus a little more serious.

So its safe to say I'm worried.

But Oh So Excited!

I imagined the tunnels under the University of Illinois that ran from building to building under the campus. Most people didn't even know they were there. I only figured it out, because I was working in the basement of a building that had an odd door leading to a short set of stairs taking you into these tunnels. It was, of course, awesome.

I'm pondering going back to my high school.. they had bomb shelters built under parts of the school during I think.. the Cold War.. and I've explored them before. But similar darkly lit tunnels, dirt floors.

Any of the scenes shot on the surface are either at night, or will be greenscreen

It all seems to fit perfectly into a 6-7minute film.. A few scenes might need to be cut, but nothing major

I'm looking forward to how this turns out. I really like the story idea and was hoping that some films would be like this!

Will this be present day? And is there a 'fantasy' aspect to this?

It sounds fun! Good luck!

This is present day on another planet... so things are a tad different.

There's a slight fantasy aspect... but entirely rooted in some form of science

I'm currently being overwhelmed with starting a new job, thus I won't be posting for a week or two.. possibly, but in the meantime, still working, getting ready to put out casting calls

Sigh! Yes, the cumbersome day job. Now if they would just pay us for our hobbies instead . . . (LOL).

Good luck on the film, can't wait!

you are not alone. I myself will be treating this like a big production. I am learning what to do and what and when to say lights, camera, action and all that stuff. My brother, Dsto, and I are new to the film industry and want to make a big impression and maybe make a living with this. Our film in this fest is called Visionary and we are going to have fun making it, if anything else. have fun with your film.

Different kid, similar pose, similar clothing. Weird that. Now I have to avoid that pose for future posters... sigh

This sounds like fun. And your poster rocks!

You talked earlier about having a full blown crew for this film. I'm used to doing 90% myself. It takes more coordinating to build a crew and coordinate lots of schedules but it's worth it.

I didn't see, did you secure a Red for this production?

Zacatac
05-07-2009, 06:07 AM
Yeah, over the past two months, I've gained alot of experience with crews over 5 (now thats considered a full crew to me)

As for the RED, I almost had the option of "borrowing one" but I may have to actually rent one this time around, either that or use the HMC150

I love my HMC150. I'll be filming with it. What do you use to edit?

Do you use cineform or edit natively?

Zacatac
05-09-2009, 02:11 PM
I'll be editing naitively... but Cineform is a good option, but i just don't see me buying it for a bit

I can officially announce we will not have this done for the festival, but come this fall, I'm considering shooting it. I have a full script, that can be expanded.

Thanks to Chris Keaton for writing it!
