Is "3MOS" a single CMOS sensor?
Is it three CMOS sensors?

Where did you get that info, Kenn?

it is 3 cmos sensors as he stated.
It is panasonics implementation of cmos technology and that is the name they have branded it with.

Thanks - But where are you getting that info from?
Page 8 of the camera manual says "The AG-HPX300P is equipped with a 1/3 inch 2.2 megapixel 3MOS sensor..." not "sensors".

it's not exclusive to 1/3" as it first debuted in their avchd palmcorders, I believe.
That is just what they call it... 3MOS = 3 CMOS sensors...
I guess they are just referring to it as a collective since the 3MOS kind of covers that it is 3 sensors.
So, I guess they are referring to the 3 CMOS sensors as a collective 3MOS with 2.2 Megapixel resolution. Branding.

Cool. Thx.
"The three MOS sensors process the red, green, and blue components of incoming light separately, so color reproduction is superb. These sensors also have about double** the light-receiving area of CCD sensors, so image quality when shooting in low light is much higher. Compared with a conventional 1MOS, Panasonic's new 3MOS system captures more vibrant, true-to-life colors, greater detail and richer gradation. This high-precision imaging element is first in the world*** to shoot in lighting as low as 2 lux and helps the SD100 and HS100 capture exceptionally clear, bright images."

same principle as 3 ccd technology... just uses cmos instead of ccd... but the 3 stands for 3... sensors :)

Tim,
You might want to check the AG-HPX300P brochure on page 19 where it says...
CAMERA
Pick-up Device: 2.2M Pixels MOS Image sensor x 3
(1/3-inch interline transfer type and progressive modes supported)
On page 4 under Camera Section also says...
Newly Developed 2.2-Megapixel Image Sensor
The AG-HPX300 boasts the 3 Full HD MOS image sensors for RGB.
They are 1/3-inch, 2.2-megapixel (1920 x 1080) image sensors which is capable of acquiring full-HD images. This new sensor and Newly designed signal process LSI is the key technology behind the AG-HPX300’s superior picture quality. It also helps make possible the compact size, light weight and low power consumption that distinguish the AG-HPX300.
