Hey all,

Any help in regards to this would be highly appreciated.

So yesterday I was on a job where we needed to have a guy in a puppet suit, plus a director monitor our shots with their wireless setup.

I wanted to be able to use my Panasonic 8" monitor on my rails as well. Unfortunately the HVX will only have one output at a time, so the AV -> BNC adapter for the wireless setups won the battle.

Is there anyway that I can split the HDMI signal so it will output to the 8" monitor and also output to a wireless transmitter on my rails? The cheapest option as well...

I sometimes work as a video assist guy... here's what I would do:

First you need to convert the analog HD component to HD-SDI, using an AJA HD10A. That will give you two HD-SDI outputs, one for the monitor, one for the wireless. Then, you'll need to downconvert the signal (using an HD10MD3) to analog composite before sending to the wireless. The AJA units are nice because there's a handy little cable that powers two of them from an Anton Bauer Gold Mount. Often, the same batt that powers your main monitor (the Pana 8") will power the AJA stuff. So, it's out of the way.

Good advice, thanks!

Unfortunately I don't have any A/B batteries, I always just powered the monitor off cheap Bescor battery belts.

Is there anything else that I can use as a splitter?

Apparently the new Panasonic BTLH80WU has SDI output on it now? Perhaps its time to sell my old BTLH80 and upgrade?

There are all kinds of things you can use as a splitter. However, the focus of your attention should be on what happens after you split the signal. Somehow you have to convert HD to SD for the wireless. And, the only HD downconverters I am aware of work with HD-SDI inputs only.

So, you have to have a HD-SDI signal to begin with. Or else, the rest of the plan will not work.

The new model includes SDI input, but not SDI output. Need the Pana 8.4" LCD for that. Or, another brand. I really wish the 7.9" had output.
