I got a few questions for those who have ordered a Letus Extreme for a HPX170. Did you just order the 72mm ring? What rail size did you get? If you order the rail system with it, does it come with everything you need to set it up?

More importantly, what kind of wait times did you experience? I like the footage from the LEX but haven't heard back yet from letus yet about wait times.

Whats been your expereince lately?

Hey Watson
You will need the 72mm ring with the letus.
I see you are from philly, Videosmith owns a Letus Ultimate, you should go check out theres.
Send me your email and I will send some spots I did with the Letus and HPX170.

I did hear back from letus, they are suggesting getting the upgrade Achromat (which is what comes with the HVX200a and EX kit i guess). Bummer cause it adds a few extra hundred bucks. is it worth it? can it be upgraded later? I thought i was going to get away without it.

crs127 are you in philly? you deal with videosmith much? I have rented stuff from them here and there.

yeah, it's a pain.

I've ordered just the starter kit with 72mm ring - see what happens, can always upgrade later.

I ended up ordering one yesterday. They said it should ship today. Hopefully I'll get a tracking number later today. I paid for the fedex 2day so hopefully I'll have it by wednesday at the latest. I opted for the upgraded acrohmat.

crs127 - I pmed you.

I use the standard LEX on my 170 with no problems. I am sure the enhanced achromat would be great but the they look fine together. Edge to edge is very acceptable.

Still waiting for mine to be delivered but mine will be a bit longer as I'm in the UK.

I've gone for the starter kit and will see how it stacks up.

Thanks guys. I got mine yesterday. Built it up and did a few quick test shoots. Its pissing rain here so I haven't really gotten to test it yet but so far i'm happy. Now i'm just trying to figure out the best rail configuration. Thanks again.

I've got my letus at last, nearly 8 weeks. But this is due to the fact the supply chain in the Uk appears to be poor.

First thoughts are easy to set-up, no real problems with focus/sharpness etc. Doesn't appear to lose much light. Better than expected results.

Will post some pics of rig shortly.

Hi guys, exactly the thread I was looking for. I am shoping that exact same thing. You guys helped me a lot. But i'd like to know what the Acromat does precisely. Can you confirm that the HPX has flip option? And, if you would buy also a follow focus, what would you recommend? Not neccessaraly as in brands but technical aspects (what should I look for, rings size, where to buy like B and H...)

And, if anyone is from Canada, is there a places where i can rent a full adaptor system and follow focus for the hpx 170? I am located in Inuvik, NT way above the arctic circle and I cant find any web site that rent those.

Thanks

The HPX171 has a flip viewfinder but doesn't record so. However the LEX has filp built in so you don't need it. Outboard monitor is necessary as focusing on the ground class can't really be seen on the built-in one leading to soft-picture.

So ROne, you HAVE to get an external montor in order to use the LEX effectively?

If you can get the ground glass focused properly with an external monitor - you may, only just get away with it using the focus assists some of the time.

This was the thing I noticed the most, that the initial set-up of the lex is key as I did it without external and then with external monitor and realised how much room for error there is when setting up on the GG.

After than it's a bit more obvious when it's in focus.

I just purchase the Leitus elite bundle. Now I realized that I will need an external monitor. Is there one that can hook up on the railing system?
