It would be nice to get some hard data in terms of how fast you can pann until the skewing becomes visible and how much the skewing is. This compared with the EX1/3 should give a more objective "view" of how these CMOS/3MOS cams behave. Maybe one of the lucky ones who already possess the hpx300 can give some data.

Sounds nice.

It would great if Panasonic can actually run some testing.

It will be really hard to quantify that.
We can do it on a tripod and get the horizontal and vertical skew separately.
A combination of both can be scientifically compared on a Technocrane (or something equivalent). But how about handheld? I think it will be the majority of circumstances when skew becomes an issue and that's very hard to put precise numbers on it.

I think the best data you will find as an approximate to start is Barry's data, posted in the SKEW OFF thread. From there it would be ridiculous to test and test and test, and not hit what each person wants. Take a look at Barry's notes and then take it from there. Demo the camera, see for yourself. From what I recall the only place the Sony was clearly better was in the 1080P/24 and we are studying this issue. Sorry still no news, but I am hoping soon.

Best,

Yes I have read barry's test when it came out, very interesting and as i remember exept for the 1028/24p mode the HPX300 was even a little bit better than the ex1 regarding skew, right? Is it possible to increase the scanrate of the rollingshutter with a firmware update????? I have the feeling it is not possible else why not implementing it from the beginning.

What about the noise issues i am reading about on varies treads. Wasn't it comparable withe the HPX170 which was much better than the original HPX200? Is the difference with the EX1/3 so large????

On noise. This is a 1920 x 1080 full raster camera, so I would expect stock factory settings to produce some noise. As time goes, usually pretty soon after a number of people own the camera and mingle on DVXuser et al, a bunch of settings turn up for best picture from the cam. Looking at what I saw on the menu and the cam itself on a broadcast monitor, I didnt see anything that would bother me, Id suggest a light reduction on the detail level and a few other minor tweaks will render it a moot point. Usually the case. Settings Ive used on the EX (used it maybe ten times) in the past all have reduced detail for same reason.

Looking at that scene file menu, theres lots of ways to reduce noise to suit varying shoots.
- Detail Level
-V Detail Level
-Detail Coring
V Detail Freq.
