I would like to create an intro for a week long event.

That will included -

City shots (both day and night)
Interviews
And Various elements (buildings / subway / Starbucks local shops

I am thinking of renting the Canon 5D Mark II
along with the 135L (I have some photography experience)
so the focal length chosen here is good for my needs.

Wondering if I will have more limitations with the 5D vs. if I just borrowed
a D90 from a friend and rented lenses.

Seeing as how locking the aperture for video is a pain, whereas with the D90 it's not as difficult.

The D90 is just as difficult to lock exposure. Both need full manual lenses.

Go for the 5D if you are going to do night shoots. I haven't seen much in terms of D90 night footage but I have seen and shot night footage with the 5D Mark II and it's amazing.

Rent a Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS. That will give you more flexibility than your 135mm. Plus the IS will help eliminate some of the jello effect. Do not underestimate the usefulness of image stabilization lenses when shooting video.

You can see some footage I shot with this combo in extremely low light and moving objects at http://www.vimeo.com/3355470
