Alrighty, time for the Friday Night Raptor Show.

Here's what I've been working on for CGIF 3.
This time I'm ready. My first entry is done, a pretty simple concept, took me 3 days I think.

I spent most of one day just figuring out and fixing coordinate errors in the reel that were causing some wierd lighting spectral effects. Some points somehow got misaligned by a fraction due to the decimal limitations of C4D. Sometimes that happens to me when I move/scale an object around too
much, things tend to slip out by a few thousands of a unit, enough to cause lighting artifacts sometimes.

Anyhoo, here's grab. Not hard to figure out what's taking place here.

I started on a second entry 4 days ago with pictures of a dvx100 provided by my brother and began modelling a dvx100.

Because I'm only using ref pics, some things are a bit off, the stereo mics for example appear to be too wide, I can probably fix that.
It's hard to tell with pictures.
The back and other side still need to be completed and I need to touch up some of the current pieces.

I'm shooting for next Friday to have the model wrapped.
I'm also noticing with soft shadowing there are a few objects that have the hard edges showing which shouldn't be happenning, It should look smooth. Another one of those " jeez, now I have to fix that" kind of thing that digs into my time.

Hopefully I can get this entry in as well, but at least I already have one done that's half decent so I'm less paranoid this time around.

Hope ya'll having fun.

Well, you have not seen it yet, and besides, did you see my last one(?), who cares? Just do it. Dooooo it. Cmon man.

And besides it's up to the dvxfest guys to pick thier own to use, so the more the selection they have, the better it is for everyone. Trust me, do one, put it in, and it'll get picked up by someone.

Great work Raptor. The eye piece housing on the DVX looks a bit wierd... Shading error? Or a few more polys needed? Has a faceted look.

Hey Tower, actually the eyepeice is right, give or take a few mm. The soft shadowing is causing a lot of problems in these test render stages, weird, but maybe with proper textures it'll fix itself, if not, I can use hard shadows and work around that in some way.
Well, I'll have to work something out, weird though, it's never happened to me before. We'll figure it out.

Hope your entry is coming along Tower. I must have watched your first winning entry well over a hundred times now, maybe 2, and never get tired of it.

Just for conversation, my first entry is really simple and, really, you never know how people are going to receive it so while the grab may look OK, lol, that just may be an OK grab and the rest of it sucks, ya know? :)

So I hope people get something in and ya never know, really, till you get that all important feedback, right?

Model looks great man. I like the look and feel of the first one too. In the end it is what it is. I'm not a very good artistic critic of others' work though. I'm better at helping noobs with technical stuff. Guess I'm a better producer than director!

Yep, workin' on mine. Got distracted a bit by QuestFest but I dropped it today after two weeks worth of busted character models. Maybe next time...

I saw my 1st entry about a thousand times while cutting and editing, and about ten times after I finished it!

Looking cool Raptor. Like the DVX.
I once started to model a HVX200,
but gave up pretty quickly because of the organic forms.

I´m just not the model type :D

I prefer to do texturing, camera moves and lighting.

Great work, keep rocking.

Winding down my vacation so decided to spent a couple more hours on the model this morning. A test texture did seem to help fix that soft shadowing problem so I think I'll be okay there.

@Postmaster. Thanks Frank. Your right about the organic nature of the model. And there seems to be a million parts on it. It seems to go on forever.

I think what I may do is, since the other side is not completely done, is to just keep that area out of the camera's eye, as far as getting an entry in goes. And maybe if I go for that 'trophy' look for the dvx I might be able to get this entry in.

Ilauzirika got me thinking and I felt a bit guilty about not working on it, hehe, so I'll pick away and it and see what happens.

So here's with a test texture after a bit more modeling this morning, just to let you know, I haven't completely given up on it yet, hehe.
