Anyone have any success with matchmoving EX1 footage? I'm considering purchasing this cam for an effects-heavy feature - also considering the GY-HM700, as it uses full 1280x720CCDs.

(I've searched this topic but couldn't find anything specific to this cam.)

Hi Kenn,

I think we should definitely have a JVC Sub Forum in DVXUser. :) I'm Glad that JVC went CCD for their new Sub 10k camera, defnitely a market here.

Our JVC website is up and here is the link to the HM700.

We have New York Times Square footage (daytime), but JVC won't let us release the video until we get our demo unit, which should come in today or next week.

Were you able to shoot any resolution charts? That's been my biggest concern with the HM700.

I remember something shot on the HV20 and posted on Vimeo a moving shot of the woods and a cgi box placed on the ground. It looked great and that was with a HV20. Not sure if it will live up to your needs. It may still be on there do a search.

I've successfully matchmoved with the EX1. To be honest it's really no different than other high end cams, just shoot purposefully for matchmoving. I use Boujou - works great!
If your question is more regarding resolution/noise/chroma sampling of a particular cam getting in the way of matchmoving then no worries with the EX1/3.

I was just worried about the skew/wobble, created by some movements with the CMOS cameras. I've been edging toward the JVC because of its' CCDs - but I like just about every other feature of the EX1.

Like the Red, I didn't have any issues with skew and wobble shooting EX1 and then matchmoving. If you pan fast enough to get jello vision then the quality of your tracking marks (balls or tape) would suffer even with CCD. Matchmoving software wants smooth transitions between frames to work best or you're in for a lot of key framing. For me I want the highest resolution. I'd rent Red all the time if I could justify it but I purchased an EX1 and it's great.
