I own a DVX-100b but have rented a ex-3 a couple times for a few music videos ... on the DVX there is a backlight button you can push to resolve that issue, but not sure how to do it on the ex-3 ... anyone?

I have an EX1 and I'm not sure if there's a 'backlight button' or not, but even if there was I wouldn't use it. You can just open up the iris to properly light the subject (and most likely blowing out the background), or properly light the foreground. That's just me.

You're right Buck. A "Back Light Button" is generally considered a "consumer" camera feature. The EX1 is a bit more pro. The Back Light Button is for when you're shooting on the run and you're not on manual iris, so you want a single button to make an "automatic" adjustment for you... It's like the difference between a fully automatic consumer snap-shot camera... and a pro camera where almost nothing is automatic... because a pro wants to control everything.

Set one of the Assign buttons to engage TLCS Backlight.

When I had my FX1, I used a lot of the 'backlight' button too. When I switched to EX1, I missed that button a lot. Now I am using fully manual i just play with the Iris control to have the correct exposure. Love the convenient and full control.
