I just got a macbook pro, and final cut pro studio 2. I own a DVX and am shooting a project today, I was wondering how to setup my camera via firewire to my computer for non-tape recording.

Also! For 24p projects, am I able to capture from a sony deck? If I want to capture without using my camera it has to be at my school and all we have are sony decks. I have no slave or cheap capture camera, so that's out of the question.

To record straight to hard drive using FCP, simply connect your camera via FireWire, set your capture controls to "FireWire - non-controllable device," and use the "Capture Now" function to start and stop recording.

As for capturing tapes... any deck with miniDV playback will be fine. I shoot on a DVX100a and capture using a Sony DSR-11.
