So my DXV was preoccupied so i used an old camcorder to view some footage. It ate my tape! I was able to re-reel the actual tape back into the tape, but is the footage on the tape still ok? the tape was bent a little but wasn't too bad. is it a bad idea to try and view the footage on my dvx? Let me know, i just spent the last week traveling thousands of miles and had tons of footage on that tape and i am really disappointed.
Thanks for the help.

DO NOT put that damaged tape back into your DVX!
Crinkled, cracked bent or otherwise damaged tape will shed particles that will clog your DVX's heads!
If you must view or capture the images from this tape, use a cheap camera. Heck, go to a pawn shop and pick up a real cheap one for just this purpose. Just don't put that tape in your precious DVX!

I did the same exact thing but my DVX ate the tape and it actually TOOK OFF one of the tape compartment components. $800 for a little plastic piece!!! Be careful with the tape heads on the DVX! I just use a cheap little $300 Sony HC21 MiniDV to import my footage and I keep an extra Canon ZR900 as a backup/slave camera. I have never cleaned the heads or had any issues with my DVX since that incident which was 4 years ago!
