I was watching one of the cinevate durus follow focus videos (i think it was), and in one of the shots I saw dennis having a nice case with fitted foam for his lenses.
Wanted to organize my equipment and started looking for cases online.

Professional ones seemed to cost a lot.

During my last trip to home depot I saw them selleng very nice, robust, somewhat cushioned, 18x13x6, aluminum tool cases by HUSKY with removable divisions inside for $19.99. I bought 3 and also ordered a few sheets of foam from http://www.foamorder.com/packing.html for like $7 a piece

attaching a few pics of the case FIY. my foam is being shipped, once it arrives,
I will custom cut the foam to fit my nikon primes, video dslr, some sound gear and redrock micro mattebox (the case for which was selling for like $250 i believe).

wanted to share this, if anyone needs a case like i did and may find this info useful.

I have that case for my redrock, I used the precut foam that came with it in the cardboard box, it was actually a perfect fit,

Nice. I buy Vanguard cases from Amazon for between $40 and $50 (depending on the size) that include the diced foam. But this looks just like them other than the color and the foam. And cheaper. Has it held up pretty well?

Nice!
This really is the way to go if you need a decent hard case. I buy cases similar to this from Harbor Freight Tools for about the same price. They usually have one with foam in it already too, so you just cut out the shape(s) you need and you're in business.

I bought and used these cases many years ago... They do not hold up well, especially if you travel a lot like I did.. But for 20 bucks, hey...
