It looks like more of a camcorder to be used on tripod?
Is it fairly easy to work hand held?
I will be using it both, but also need to be free to roam mostly.
Any help you can give me would be great.

it's got a nice weight and balance. takes a little getting used to but it feels comfortable in the hand even if you're using the hand strap and not the handle.

Larger cameras are better than smaller ones for hand held once you get used to it. The weight anchors it, which allows for better shooting. It is well made for that, although not as well made as a shoulder mounted.

I used to work in television, but haven't for sometime. I'm getting back into video work on my own and plan on buying this camera. I need to learn it fast. I heard it has a steep learning curve, but I think I should be able to handle it.

yes it is sorta hard to learn... theres lots of things that other cameras dont do... so spend every waking hour getting used to it!
