Ok i need it explained like i am an idiot.
Can borrow a 100a for my short and i wanna shoot in 16:9 so i know there are 490 line of rez and 410, 000 pixels per ccd ........so first of all is that 410,000 total or 410 x 3....
and compared to my lil camcorder which gets about 710,000 in wide mode.....one cmos.....whats the loss with the wide modes exactly?

not sure how that's possible....in squeeze mode it uses 360 lines of a possible 480, no?....i guess my question is it possible i am actually going to get better resolution in widescreen using my canon fs100?

No, you won't be better off with the fs100. The fs100 a single-chip camera that records highly-compressed MPEG-2 standard def video.
Yes, technically you do lose resolution by shooting squeeze. But the merits of the DVX's 24p mode and cine gamma setup create such a beautiful image in the right hands that the resolution loss isn't noticeable.
Just cruise around the DVX footage forum and look at what's done with squeeze.

If you let Vegas do the upscale, you will be upscaling color subsampled, DV compressed images, and upscaling the artifacts related to that. One of the big advantages of SQUEEZE, resolution loss or not (it's very hard to tell), is that the upscale occurs before the destructive color subsampling and compression.

I'm still a newbie w/ shooting on a DVX-100a, but trying to understand the benefits of squeeze mode. I've read through some of the other forums, but still a bit of ??? How easy is it to convert from Squeeze to 16:9 in post, and what are the advantages to that? Also would it differ from shooting something like 24p to 60i in terms of Squeeze? thanks.

squeeze IS 16:9....
if you're shooting in squeeze, only use 24p

All shot in squeeze, I use it for everything and I haven't noticed a difference.
