I got a file that was sent to me compressed in the H.264 format and I need to import that footage into FCP so I can add it to my timeline. For some reason FCP won't allow the import to happen. Does the file need to be uncompressed first? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Im just getting word that it is .264 raw data file, that it hadn't been converted... someone else is looking into it as well, and is coming up stumped. he's thinking we may need to convert the data on a PC and then move it over, since the data is playable on a PC via a player that came with the info. The file name is G.264 and there are other files with just letters before the .264.

Any ideas what this is all about?

H264 is not a good codec for editing.
convert to DV codec.
