This is the second time it happen to me. The first with my DVX-100A then I bought a cheap miniDV and the same problem again. Each time I plug the firewire cable in the wrong way, the port in camera is burned.
Do you have any idea how can I fix this problem, I have already changed my firewire card. I'm seriously thingking to change this DVX camera to something with HDD but my budget is too limited to have a high quality images.

Now I understand why Apple got rid of FW400...
You can either be careful and TRIPLE check before you plug it in.
Or get a camera with USB instead.
Whatever you do, do not join a bomb squad unit.

How is it possible to plug it in the wrong way with the shape it has?

Typically this happens when someone tries to plug in the 6-pin end the wrong way. The 4-pin-to-4-pin isn't a problem because 4-pin connectors don't carry power. But if the six-pin connecter is shorted out against the female receptor, power might hit one of the lines it was never intended to, thus blowing up the camera's firewire port.
The solution to this is to *never* attach the 4-pin side, until the 6-pin side is firmly attached. If you plug in the 4-pin into the camera and then try to plug the six-pin into the computer, you run the risk of blowing up your port. But if you successfully plug the six-pin side in first, then once it's firmly attached you should be able to safely plug in the 4-pin side.

X2!!!
I've never had a problem myself as I always have it pugged-in at the computer end first, but I've heard about more than a couple fried firewire ports around here.

In my case it fried both ports, the macbookpro one and the HVX one, go figure...

I see. So the larger plug, the 6 pin, can be partially plugged in enough to where the pins make contact even though it won't go in all the way.

I'm gonna sale this camera, and buy a new HD one something arround $800, since all my video are dedicated for the web. I don't need that precision even if the new HD camcorder are really powerfull.
I'm thinking seriously about the new panasonic HD SD-200
