Looks like a camera's coming for those who found the price of the 5DMII a bit too rich- Canon has officially announced a new Rebel with 1080p Live View recording, and you'll be able to use the cheaper EF-S lenses. Oddly, however, the T1i's video recording is limited to 20fps in 1080p, though 30p at 720p and 640x480. Possibly another rouse by Canon to protect their dedicated HD camera line?

D'oh! Beat me to it.

So the T1i does 20fps, the 5D does 30fps...maybe the future 60D will do 25?

Didn't they used to (hand crank) silent movies at around 18 fps? But seriously, what sort of pull-up would be viable to get 24-25 fps and what would the cadence look like? Very disappointing, but I suppose the DIGIC 4 is hard wired to exclude our useful speeds (they can go faster, they can go slower, but they can't go at our speed!).

Another shot in Canon's foot (They're getting good at it!:Drogar-Dum(DBG):) and another reason to buy the GH1.
Speaking as a Canon user it brings on a sense of unbelieving despair:(

The T1i 'rebel' (what is it rebelling against ? compatibility ?) is a promotional item for the new Panasonic GH1.

I can see Nikon and SONY getting in position to beat Canon off the DSLR-VIDEO market.
20fps? They only try to protect their videomarket (the HF100, the AH1 etc). Nikon has nothing to protect and SONY desperately wants to gain on the DSLR market. They will come with their own solutions soon hopefully.

20 FPS is a downer, but at least the T1i has a high rez LCD!

haha, I cant believe that neither Canon or Nikon has figured this out yet

Movie size and frame rate (1920 x 1080P -20fps, 1280x720P -30fps, 640 x 480 -30fps)

Morons! I mean WTF?! They are getting hammered with 24/25 fps requests after 5D, and this is somekind of reply? They could have crushed the entry-level Scarlet with this! Anyone from dvxuser would head their R&D department better!
