Hpx300 & jan !

I have one question (may be silly) but i have to ask you since i dont own a HPX300 yet !

Say if i set recording on HPX300 as DV only to get the maximum recording time on P2 card what will be the output on HD-DSI ports. meaning if i use XDR as a secondary recorder then what signals will XDR receive from the HPX300 HD-SDI output ports ! will it be AVCintra or DVCPRO HD r simple DV only output form HDSDI :)

Hi,

Sorry, busy day. So if you have it set to record 480, it will not do an upconvert. However if you have it set for either of the HD modes, it will do a down convert. So the CD device could be set to do an SD record, with the P2 doing HD, but not the other way around.

Hi, Thx for your reply. I get it so what goes into P2 in terms of recording format is what goes out for HD-SDI port. P2=HD recording then HD-SDI=HD !

It would have been a nice feature if we are able to shoot DV in P2 cards & still have a HD mode output on HD-SDI port we could have had .. esp space eating HDmode on CD devices ! So my NLE could have cut draft video on DV mode & one could have resync the DV footage with the HD footage later. I know it can done if P2 shoots in HD & downconverts for CD thru HD-SDI port but i wanted to have HD on CF cards so i save on P2 cards quantity.

I cant wait for my dealer to get their HPX300 for my final shoot & evaluation on diff light situation. Event shooter issue.

The problem in working the camer as a DV device it would have to do an upconversion to get HD out the HD-SDI, That just wouldn't look very good.

You could always get the proxy card and record AVC-Intra on the cards, and low-res quick-edit proxies on SD cards...

Thx barry but i am not very sure as to how does the proxy card works ... effectively then i may be able to shoot on ONE p2 card only. as first one is occupied by Proxy card.

Anyways i intend to shoot & record on CD device on CF cards but wanted only proxies ... so can i have just one Proxy card in place & keep the SD card recording low res proxies...

If otherwise pls correct me !

Probably not, you'd probably have to have a P2 card in place in order for it to know to record proxies. Don't know for sure.
