My firewire is gone on my DVX 100b. I had it looked at, and it's going to cost $1100 here in Canada to fix it. In the meantime, I have stuff to shoot and I am wondering how I should shoot (I want 24p look) to be able to transfer using another cheap camcorder to transfer my footage. I edit with Vegas (PC). Should I shoot non-adavanced 24fps, reg 24fps, or icky 29 and then try to change it in rendering. I guess my main question is, "will the regular camcorder preserve the look of the DVX 24fps or not? Thanks, I'm going crazy here. :(

You can shoot 24pa and use a cheap camcorder to transfer, no problem. Once it's recorded on the tape, the camcorder just passes it through to your computer.

So then it's probably cheaper and smarter to just buy a $200 camera instead of even bothering with the firewire on my DVX (plus all the time - wear on the camera it takes to do the transfers) ? Thanks, I hope it works

It's no problem. I use a cheapo Samsung mini-dv cam. You really shouldn't being using your DVX as a capture deck anyway...

I've heard that certain cameras don't play it back right, but I've never actually seen it. When I had a DVX the firewire was broken, and I never even noticed until a few years later when I wanted to use it for stop action. It's always a better idea to use a cheap deck with a camera like that, even if the firewire worked fine. You can find them for $100 if you look hard enough.
