Ok... First, I want to take a moment to again acknowledge our sponsors, and for this fest, I would especially like to acknowledge ABEL CINE for their amazing prize donation, coming in late and blowing the doors down with an 8,000 dollar prize donation of the MOVIEtube ST.
All of our sponsors always come through with great prizes for the festivals, and they love to support the fests and the members. I hope you will consider them for your equipment purchases. We've always tried to maintain a friends and family atmosphere here and try to attract sponsors who will contribute to that vibe. We're very proud of the fact that we have such great sponsors on DVXuser who help to make this a better place.
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=163795
I'd also especially like to thank all of you who took the time to put an entry together and put your work and your selves out there for all to view, enjoy, and rip to shreds with their feedback :)
This fest we had 28 first time entries, which is fantastic, and 9 of the top 20 placers were first time entries....
So, without further ado.... First, I give you the top 10 (competiing) films as voted by the members: (* denotes first time dvxfest entrant)
1. Collections Vol. 4: Mint in Box - JCVR *
2. Placebo - pia12254
3. Model/Photographer - Zak Forsman
4. Lost at Sea - TheMacB
5. Acceptance - Kyrre *
6. Again to Return - Yeehawnow
7. Ano Perdido - Delicia Producciones *
8. Melody for Allyriane - jasonthewho
9. Stupendous: The Movie - Armisiano
10. Last Touch - Norm Sanders
In addition to the top 3, we like to give awards out as well...
Let's start with Best Newcomer.... This is to a non-top 3 placing film by a first time entrant.
This film was one of the sleeper hits of the fest and I thought this dude just came out of nowhere.... Apparently, so did you all, since he recieved 5th overall in the festival:
Best Newcomer: Acceptance - Kyrre *
We are also giving away an award selected by the mod squad for Creative Vision. this award goes to:
Creative Vision: Again to Return - yeehawnow
In addition to this, we have some other goodies to give away. The first of which being 10 copies of DV Rebel's Guide book. These were selected at random from the non-finalist films using some code that Larry generated.
Saint Anthony by John LaBonney
Losers in Excess by MrKilloran
Developed by The Student
Voiced by AlexJeffery
The Fishermen by tedynecula
Lost Youth by Helferc
I Understand You by eustace
Take by preston
The Split by Morox
Second Chances by vnguyen972
And, one more.... I have three copies of the "Sound for Film and Television" instruction DVD courtesy Wrightsville Beach Studios (Barry Green & David Jimerson).
puckthemad had two entries in this festival, and they finished 15th, and 16th in the festival, but I think everyone would agree that he could use some help on his sound :) So, maybe with this DVD, we'll be seeing puckthemad in the finals next time...
Here are your three winners of the "Sound for Film and Television" DVD:
Keeper of the Lost, and Falling Up - puckthemad
Lost Youth - helferc
Gangs and Gangsters - lordambrai
Wait... one more... I am giving a prize to Zak Forsman as stated in the "appreciation" thread created a little while ago. This is a special acknowledgment for Zak's contribution to LossFest as a member (not a film entrant). He championed the fest, and took the new outside promotion allowance and truly ran with it. Zak, you really elevated the fests, and we appreciate your presence here. thanks very much. As such, we feel you deserve more than just a pat on the back. You served as a fine example this fest and we want to reward you for that.
For setting a great example, serving the fest to the fullest, and helping to elevate them:
DVXuser Appreciation Award: Zak Forsman
Ok. Those are your winners and award recipients of DVXuser's DVXFest 2009 - LossFest.
You will notice that I have not named who gets what this time. I did a poll a while back, and there was a pretty overwhelming consensus that you would like for me to allow the top 3 to pick at least one of their prizes in order of placing...
So, starting from the top, I will contact you via private message in order, and you may pick one unallocated prize. I will remove that from the list, and move to 2nd place, then the same for third. After the first three prizes have been handed out, I will award the rest of the prizes, and will announce who got what in the next post of this thread.
Congratulations to all of you....
Oh, yeah..... Next fest is..... BallerinaFest... wait... I mean....
QUESTFEST. I will create a forum for it here momentarily. The rules will follow in a day or two as we are making some changes, and clarifying some things.
MAKE SURE you read the rules for the next fest. Things will be quite a bit different in some respects and it will effect your eligibility. So, MAKE SURE TO READ THE RULES WHEN THEY ARE POSTED. THEY WILL BE DIFFERENT.
I'm very proud of all of you, and would like to personally thank you for taking the time to create an entry and put it out there. That is what it is all about. Creating new work, learning, elevating yourself, and being elevated. Here's to many more great fests ahead

Congrats to the top 3!
And congrats to Kyrre for Best Newcomer! I have to admit, yours was my favorite.
And to yeehaanow for Best Creative Vision! Although there was no doubt in my mind you would win this award. :)
Oh wow.
This was a really fantastic experience to be a part of. Congrats to all of the winners and applicants. This is certainly a community and world that i'd love to keep bringing the actors and talent that I work with in my day to day life into.
This project was really important to me for two reasons:
1) It involved me physically breaking my childhood nostalgia. I really wanted to put these strange toys that I had collected to good use in a way that paid tribute to that time in my life but also commented on them and my current outlook.
2) I've been so wrapped up in nearly a years worth of contract negotiations and pitches that this was the first project that I really just got out and shot. It honestly kind of busted a slump for me and in my own way signaled a turning of things.
Thanks to everyone who supported our short. Comedy is very important to me, it's what i'm making my life doing and I feel that most comedy doesn't make the most of the genre. Everyone who liked our short (sprocketboy i'm looking at you) for their own reasons is a part of our winning.
A huge shout out first and foremost to Matty_G. One of my best friends and collaborators. This guy is going to be a huge talent. Couldn't have done it without him.
I unfortunately have to run out the door right now, but i have more to say and people to thank.
Before I leave though.... thanks to DVXuser for putting this whole thing on. They've built an enormous community of talent helping talent.
Congrats to everyone.
so annoyed i have to run out the door right now... guh! :)

Jason Ramsey
03-24-2009, 12:05 PM
we'll go top 10 publicly, but beyond that it's on request and then those people can share if they want to...
We figure it's not polite to read everyone's grade in front of the class, as that person who finished 63 might not want everyone knowing that :)

Makes perfect sense. Yeah, even though LAST TOUCH placed top 10, I was still then embarrassed to a degree to see that it was last in the rankings. NOT a bad thing, mind you and I'm still very grateful to have been a finalist, just that feeling like you said of having your grade read in front of the class, lol.

Ha ha! :) Next time, you get 1 star. :Drogar-Love(DBG):
One thing I wondered about. How many stars did the participants give themselves? Did they give themselves 10 or an honest appraisal? Just for the record, I gave myself 7 stars. Call me stupid.
Jason Ramsey
03-24-2009, 04:02 PM
I think the como consistently has to be the most honest voter when it comes to rating yourself. :)
no .0001's... there were some that were hundredth's apart... but none in the top 10... that's part of what the 2nd round is for.
a couple hundredth's of a point is pretty close, but still several perfect 10's or 1's from real impact... or a whole bunch of 6's, 7, 8's, etc...
A few tenth's of a point is a solid margin once there are enough ratings in. I would not recommend folks trying to game the system :)

OUCH on the one star! What's your address, I'll send you a gift to make up! :)
I didn't give myself a 10, that's for sure. I get what you're saying, however, and it's been brought up before. A part of you has to assume that because it's a competition, every person is going to give their own film a 10, and if that actually DID happen, then it would just nullify their own vote, so to speak, since everyone would be on the same playing field.

I thought about giving myself a 7 as well. But as that could potentially hurt me, I found it was probably better not to vote at all.

That's makes sense. I believe they should not count our votes at all. Its awkward to vote for yourself.
