I'm trying to help my buddy out with a project. Anyway to record the image from my computer to my DVX through firewire?

Maybe you could import the footage to your NLE, then export from the NLE to the DVX. I use Adobe Premiere Elements and have exported to tape a number of times to make archival tapes of edited footage.

If you are using FCP you can "Print to Tape." I think it is under the file menu at the bottom.

I don't believe people are understanding what the OP wants. If I'm reading it right, he wants to record the content of his computer screen to tape. In other words, he wants to output his Windows desktop (or whatever) via firewire to his DVX100b. As far as I know, that can't be done.

I do know you can get screen recording software that will record whatever's on your computer screen to a video file -- an .AVI or whatever. That file can be imported into your NLE and exported to tape. However, the resulting resolution leaves a lot to be desired. It looks fine on a computer monitor, but pretty crappy on a TV screen.

Does anybody know any other way?

Buy or rent a scan converter. This takes a VGA signal and converts it to a video signal, which can then be sent to the DVX in VTR mode. Keeps the resolution clean.

I use a program called Camatasia Studio (http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp) to record the screen then you can print to tape the footage from your NLE of choice.

Have fun! :)

I wouldn't try to "record" the computer screen to tape unless you absolutely have to. If you're looking to reproduce what you see on the computer in a video, you're far better off using screen recording software. Recording it to tape will simply destroy your resolution and color.

The problem probably isn't the screen recording software, but the resolution. It's probably far, far too high to be displayed well on a TV screen. You usually have to introduce a blur or zoom on in particular parts of the image.
