View Full Version : Reconnect audio in project

Hey everybody,

I have a weird problem in a project I am working on. I opened this project after some time again and I got the message that some files where missing. I have had this before because I tend to sometimes put the files in different folders when I am cleaning my folders. Normally I just reconnect them by chosing the right folder and it is all ok again. But now I can't do that!

I have the video files and they play well, but there is no audio with it. I see the audio files in the timeline but they are blank. If I try to connect it by right click and chose reconnect media and then the audio files from the hard drive, it says:

Files to connect:

Offline files:
'' is missing

Who knows what I am doing wrong here and what can I do to fix it? Thank you in advance.

Cheers Niels

I'd start trouble shooting by going to the original video files and playing them in quicktime. Is the audio still there? If not look at the movie properties (apple+j) and see if you have a sound track and if it is enabled.

If there is audio in the quicktime file, try skipping the final cut dialog to reconnect when you open the project and then try to reconnect one of the files individually. (right click on it in the bin and choose reconnect media)

You could also try copying and dragging in one of your video files that you know has audio outside of fcp and not inside, onto the timeline to see if it still has a problem.

Not a solution, but maybe a place to start trouble shooting.

Best of luck.

Thanks Jedd for the responds.

There is no audio with the original video and I can't enable it. Still trying the dragging advice, but it doesn't see to wok either.

If there is no audio in the original file, then where did you get it from in the first place?

Sounds to me like your capture settings were to capture video and audio, but in fact you had no audio on your tape/card. That would explain why you have audio tracks, but there is nothing in them.

That's not it, because it worked well, with video and audio before. The problem occured when I changed the folders of the project and therefore it didn't recognised the video and audio together anymore. Normally you can reconnect it when you start up the project, but this time it didn't do that.

I solved the problem now! When I start up the project and it says files to connect: ''is missing''. I go to the hard drive where the original audio files are on and I turn of the only connect match names. Then I connect the original audio file with the ''is missing'' file (have to guess which one it is) and then I save it and shut the project down. I start it up again and then connect the other one, and do this untill I've connected all the missing files.

Probably not the right way to do it, but it worked eventually.

Thanks for the advice
