I am thinking of purchasing an 8 or 9" lcd monitor to use with my Ex3 does anyone have any recommendations, would prefer something good in the mid price range really and would be great if it had focus peaking. Would the built in EX3 focus peaking work with any monitor?

This is the one I've been looking at: ($999 list)

Can't decide whether to spend the extra money to get HD-SDI input. But I like all the features it has (watch the video). Peaking, exposure help, etc...

TVlogic from abel looks great. Dont waste your money on a marshall or something.

Can you expand on that Tony? I looked at the Marshall at a trade show and it looked great. But I didn't compare it side-by-side with anything. I still haven't made a decision either.

BTW, JVC, Panasonic and Sony all make small portable monitors once you've stepped up to the same price range as TVLogic.

I bought the Ikan 8" w/ component cables (it's in the mail, I'll let you know how it is when I get it this week)... It's no TVlogic, but hey, it's better than the on camera LCD and in these economic times the price is right... $545.00 USD for a limited time through Digital Juice.

I have been going through this process as well. The big thing you have to look at with all these monitors is the resolution. None of them are giving you real HD at the prices you are talking about. They are usually 800 x 600 if not less. Most of those are 4:3 monitors, so your image is letterboxed losing even more resolution. Unfortunately, you will spend more than $2000 - $3000 to get a real HD 1024 x 768 monitor.

Don't forget though at smaller sizes don't really need full res though. 7" of a 42" Full HD screen is 320x180.

It's still not HD

You have to consider viewing distance and how much detail your eye can resolve at that distance. I don't have figures, but in a monitor you don't have to have a 1:1 pixel relationship. Sure we'd all like it though

The EX1 has a 640x480 RGB 3" 16:9 LCD
A 7 inch version of that screen would be 1493x1120
Its not until 9" that you hit 1920x(1440)

Can't imagine what you might have to pay for that, but you're not likely to get as close to your 7 or 9" LCD as you are a 3".

Got my Ikan 8000HDe ... I'm going component out and using gold plated rca>bnc adapters, and it looks great... Had to buy the Sony DV batteries separate & charger... but the Ikan is great for shot composition and it's pretty dang crisp. I give it a thumbs up for the price!

Guy: The Marshell guy I talked to at the trade show told me that the only way to get 1920x1080 resolution is with a 17" or larger monitor. You won't find that resolution in smaller monitors.

I accept that as the limitation of what has been made, but not what can be made. As I worked out before, if they made a 9" version of the LCD on the camera (same pixel density) it would be at least full res.

What I would like to know is for eash size screen, what is the resolution at which any additional pixels would be a waste as you couldn't tell the diff anyway.

If you can afford it, it's worth the money
