quick question on the ex3- first, can it shoot to tape, and secondly can it shoot HD to tape. i have used the jvc gy-hd200 and liked that i could shoot HD on tape with it... at this point a hard drive and SS cards might put me out of pocket too far so i was just curious.
thanks

The EX3 does not have a built in tape deck. It will only record an HD signal to SxS cards or the various SD card adapters.

Unless you record via HD-SDI to an external deck.

You can also use the EX30 deck for playback to a deck. They recently added 23.98 playback out of the deck. You need a firmware update to make this work..

Check it out on my blog too - http://blog.abelcine.com/2009/02/04/sony-adds-24p-30p-recording-to-ex30-sxs-deck/

If you run the 1394 out of the EX1 or 3 to a HDV camera (I use a HC7), and set the EX in SP mode you can use the HDV camera as a deck and record HD to tape from a EX. YOu have to live with HDV compression but you are still using the 1/2" head.

Not a portable solution though.

I think it needs to be asked why do you need or want to go to tape? If it's just the cost of SxS cards, look in Guy's sig above.
