Anyone got any negatives to say on the camera. I have been thinking about going with the HVX for a while now, but I have been using one off and on with the department I work with and I am not completely satisfied with it. Though it is more money, the EX3 really has caught my eye... Trying to decided whether to buy it or wait for the RED Scarlett to come out...

Well, you'll be waiting a bit for Scarlet since Red has slowed down development owing to the economic conditions. Check the posts here for details.

I really put Scarlet and video cameras in two very different niches. Scarlet to me is for cinematographic production. I would not see Scarlet as a run and gun, ENG or EFP device.

The EX-3 combines those abilities. You might also consider the Panasonic HPX300.

I love my EX-3 but like any camera it is not without its limitations. I think I am going to love the HPX300 when I have one in my hands.

The "what camera should I buy" is a very difficult one to answer since the answer largely rests with you. What do you want in a camera? What are you shooting? What are you willing to give up and what must you have?

Shooting hand-held with lots of movement? You might not want a CMOS rolling shutter camera like the EX or the HPX300. Concerned about the price of P2 storage? The EX series might be better. Need 4:2:2 10-bit color? Then the AVC-Intra codec of the HPX300 is for you.

I could go on and on but the point here is that all professional cameras are "good" in the hands of a professional. The real question is matching the features and strengths of the camera to your needs and your budget.

thanks! i am not in any great hurry but at this point i am sick of borrowing cameras... i had to borrow to shoot a wedding and about to do the same for an event this weekend. i just need my own camera.
i will take a look at the hpx300...
quick question on the ex3- first, can it shoot to tape, and secondly can it shoot HD to tape. i have used the jvc gy-hd200 and liked that i could shoot HD on tape with it... at this point a hard drive and SS cards might put me out of pocket too far so i was just curious.
thanks
