I fell into a lake with my DVX this morning. What should I do?

When you say lake I assume you mean clean, fresh water?

Jaimebailon

was it on when it happened?

It was a fresh water lake and yes it was on went it and I went in. Slipped off a dock while getting in a boat.. very embarrassing. I have another camera so all is not lost. I imagine the Rode NG-2 is toast that was on it. Thank god that I didn't have my firestore or SGpro adapter on as well. Oh and I did this in front of 600 people.....

Thanks Man... I've never seen so many sad faces...... I'm laughing inside because at least I can talk about it. Could have been allot worse like hitting my head on the dock or boat. Let's hope it works after a few days of heat in the florida sun.

Sorry to hear about that, MoodHairBoy.

This has to make it to the list of the world's greatest ways to kill a camera. Ranks up there with the snowboarder camera blowing the LCD off last year.

Put it in some rice (bowl). No lies...rice takes the moisture. It works for my cell phone when it gets wet.

uncooked rice that is :D

i really want to put that first post in my signature, pure hilarity regardless of the situation

but as stated, rice does the trick, or those little packets that are in shoes. Leave the tape deck open for a few days and let some moisture evaporate.

Hate to say it but I had 2 DVX100s that got slightly wet when I had a flood in my garage 3 years ago. They were completely lost. I was fortunate that I had insurance to cover them.

Good luck, though.

assuming you mean submerged when you say "went for a swim", you need to get that thing into a service center asap. I would think the only hope would be in disassembling that thing to get it cleaned and dried out.

Can anyone recommend a good service center? I'm in florida - however, I have no problem shipping the camera somewhere out of state.

It went for a swim..... as did I.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, and sorry for your dunk.
If I had this problem I'd be thinking about how dirty the water might have been; silt, algae, fish poo, etc. Just thinking about that stuff which is not going to evaporate...
If the cam is still wet you could rinse it out with a gentle flow of distilled water. It isn't likely to make it worse.

At this point it's a complete loss to me (my insurance wouldn't cover it unless I was blown into the lake by a hurricane!). Some I'm going to keep using my DVX100 and save my sheckles for a Scarlet. I did buy a replacement NG-2 though from a user here on the board so other than another DVXuser battery I am good.

Looking back it was a pretty stupid why to start a post (LOL)

speaking of dumbass snowboarders, in january i was in mammoth with my old vx2000 and some clueless dude wasnt watching and hit me when i was right on the side of the slop. the mic flew 20 ft and the camera got lodged in a tree. so much water damage that it never went on again. but... the good is that i got my dvx out of it! they guy found us the next day and was all apologetic and payed me $2500 right there!!!
