I've been waiting for the right time to pull the trigger on this one. Predictions on the price in the next two months?

Two minor quibbles:
1. No battery charger.
2. Stupid proprietary hot shoe.

All in all, Canon is, between its hv series and the hf's, really dominating the consumer HD market, both in quality and in value. Why can't Panasonic accomplish this? The HDC-SD9 (3CCD) and HDC-HS100 (3MOS) seem to come close, albeit without 24P.

Greeches: I'd be interested in reading your review of the HF100.

I'll write something up once I order and receive it.

HF100 is on its way. I'll do a writeup on it and do some comparisons to the HVX200 and DVX100, for reference.

Those pannys have 24p, I've used it but the image quality is shit.

Jared, could we have a HF100/HF10 sub-forum created? :)

It's 24P "Cinema Mode," which is in extended-gamut YCC; it requires hdmi 1.3 and a compliant monitor. This may explain your less-than-stellar results. There is no normal 24P.

He's not talking about just the colour, but the sharpness as well. The current gen of panny consumer cams are way too soft. I wanted to sell my hf100 for the sd100k because it uses the same batteries as the hmc150 but in a side by side the hf100 was so much better than sd100 it wasn't even funny. Hopefully the current generation aren't nearly as shitty, I really like the manual control and design but I can't put up with such a weak image. Plus the colour and even looks bad even without 24p engaged.

Quick test with HVX200/DVX100/HF100

I poorly exposed the HVX200, but just quickly setup everything to give an idea of picture quality.

Hard to tell much; HD version didn't work for me. But I really enjoyed your Green Screen Paint video.

YEa, gonna make a better version in the future with more details, but I had some free time on Sunday to throw that together...

the HD version worked for me...

My initial thoughts are:

1.) Great little camera, but my HVX still holds its own in Editing, resolution, color accuracy
2.) AVCHD workflow is the worst aspect of the camera, but this will be fixed in time
3.) I forget how badass the DVX100 still is! Although the workflow is a little dated in todays time of flash memory

Some more HF100 footage at 24F. Put it in Vegas and did color corrector at full saturation. Really clean I thought!
