are sony premium tapes okay to use with a 100b? or normal panasonic tapes? if not which would be most preferable? i've only had cheap handycams before this camera so i dont want to mess it up by any means haha

any tape will work fine. the master quality or premium quality tapes are recommended for fewer drop outs however i cant seem to find any where i Live (Jamaica) and opt for normal panasonic tapes that i get at an electronic store. I've had no probs.
However if ur camera is not new then u should either find out what kind of tapes were used b4 and continue using that, but to be on the safer side, run a cleaning tape no longer than 5 seconds through it and then u can use whatever tape u choose.
DO NOT mix tapes after u have chosen though, stick to whatever tape u chose.
Most tapes are ok to mix EXCEPT sony. Most if not all the other tapes are DRY lube and sony is WET lube. So do NOT mix any tapes with sony tapes.
I said dont mix tapes at all above just to be extra careful, however u can mix the others if u HAVE 2 cuz they are dry lube.
If ur cam is new just decide on a tape and stick to it.

Whoa! Don't run that cleaning tape just yet! Cleaning cassettes are also manufactured by type (wet vs. dry). If you are in doubt about what type of tape has been used previously (should the camera be pre-owned) or if you are permanently switching tape types, your best bet is a a professional cleaning.
