This is the second time in about two months that my card has been compromised (and a clone card was made). It's supposed to have some high tech chip technology thingy now (although not every place has converted), but still merchants are copying my card!

Plus these theifs used my card at a gas station to buy gas, last time the clone card was caught before it got used...

What has this world come to!? You wish you could just trust people, now I'm going to be extra extra paranoid when I use my credit card...

Just have to vent. Anyone else have this happen to you? What about more than once?

sounds like you are buying from a shady place.

When she read me my recent purchases, the shadiest place was probably McDonalds... hrmmm.

The rest was a pharmacy, staples, etc...

This happened to us on a brand new Costco Amex card.

We got it, activated it, and then used it once to buy gas at --- Costco.

Next day, we received an email from Amex indicating that they stopped an on line purchase of something from Microsoft.

I googled the particulars of this and found out that some people can put a device on a card swipe to record the magnetic numbers.

It was so strange because it was a new card with new numbers and new code and new expiration date.

Word! And the best part? You keep the greedy types in the Banks from making a nickle off of you.

I've had compromised debit cards. Usually happens at a gas station.
One thing is for sure, they are running the scam out of Montreal. I've been told this by more than one bank.

That's also where the charges on the cards occur. :)
I try to use cash at gas stations now.

Well I don't really have a car to use it at gas stations, but thanks for letting me know.

If it's run out of Montreal a lot, must be why I've had my credit card compromised twice (and my debit once a few years ago).

I'm going off the grid, no more plastic... gonna live in the jungle and eat off of maple trees with the wolf guide as my mentor... goodbye technological world, try and copy my card now ha!

Or cash works too...

Or cash works too...LOL! 3 compromised cards in my history. Counting my wife as well.

BTW, they used to switch out the pin terminals in stores like Staples while cutting off the cashiers view with bristol board. Only to come back and swap them out at the end of the night.

That's why they chain them down now. :)
