Ok so i just got my HMC151. I need some new software to edit the footage from it. I have heard the AVCHD files are tricky to edit and consume a hefty amount of processing power from the PC. Since i only have 2GB RAM on my PC I am thinking of using the AVCHD to P2 DVCPRO HD Transcoder that panasonic offer on their website as i hear this uses less RAM?
Firstly are there any drawbacks/loss of quality if i do this?
Secondly what editing software & versions will i have the choice of using?
Regards,
Paul

There are many topics that have been discussed before in this forum that answer the questions you are asking. Try using the search tool before posting and you might be surprised at what you find.
To quickly answer your questions, transcoding to DVCProHD using the MainConcept Transcoder will result in a loss of vertical resolution due to the fact that the resulting video clip will either be 1440x1080 or 960x720 as opposed to the original 1920x1080 and 1280x720.
Any recent version of Avid XPress Pro, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and Edius will handle the DVCProHD video files, but additional conversion may be required.

Thanks for your reply. In that case i will find some AVCHD compatible software so i dont loose the quality. I will search on the forum for some but if you know any and could post them here that would be great! Thanks.
