Jan mentioned sometime by the end of this week.
About stock it's hard to know, but on this economy my guess is that it will easier than before.
If you have the dough you should get your camera as soon as it's available.

We are taking pre-orders now. Our price is really good too. Talk to Jasmine in the morning or give me a call and I'll give you the 411. We are also finishing up our HPX300 comparison video. We set it up against an HPX500 and a HVX200. Great stuff! :)

& what make you feel so. dont they deliver what they advertise
A gray market dealer is one that imports a product into another country than the coutry that product is intended to be sold in. So let's take the HPX305 that Global Media Pro is advertising. That camera is intended to be sold in the country of Japan, that is where the 5 year warranty exists. If someone in Austraila or Germany or the USA buys it, they will be sending their camera back to Japan for the free warranty service.
In some cases the gray market goods can look like a great deal because the money exchange helps or they choose to advertise it at one price and then say you have to pay more for the lens. They are under no obligation to the manufacturer to be on the up and up with the product. Here is the US we have a bunch of Gray Market resellers and they seem to be headquartered in Brooklyn for whatever reason. There are small pockets elsewhere, including ebay.
My recommendation is to find your best price from a dealer you know is an authorized dealer.
Hope that helps,
Jan

I have been reading this thread about the grey market suppliers and warranty implications that comes with that and I am more than happy to buy from an authorized dealer, but is there an option to pay extra and get a worldwide warranty? I reside in Australia, but travel with my camera a lot. I am going to the USA in a few weeks and even with the horrid exchange rate, the cost of purchasing an HPX300 in the US is MASSIVELY cheaper than australia... $6,000 difference!
I received an official quote from an authorized dealer, I'm wondering if this is correct and if so... why would the Aussie pricing be so far out of whack with North America. To put it in perspective, I could fly business class to the USA and purchase one AND it would still be cheaper.
The Aussie model is the 302. I assume the only difference between the 300 & 302 would be that the standard def shooting modes would be PAL and NTSC respectively.
Any info or opinions? Pitfalls or advice would be appreciated.

Australia is a 50Hz territory (PAL, and 1080/50i and 720/50p, etc). The US HPX300 doesn't do 50Hz, it's 60Hz-only (NTSC, and 1080/60i and 720/60p, etc).

As is today a HPX300 and 2 32G cards are under $9,300 at Spec Comm.
Clearly the cards are still on the expensive side but the cost is very reasonable for the quality provided.
A decent package (with a tripod, batteries, case, etc...) will get in our hands for less than $15K.

Thanks Barry, So does the 50/60Hz affect it if I shoot 1080p or 720p at 25fps which is the PAL frame rate? Also, as I supply footage for international broadcast, does anyone know if there is a Panasonic option to get the camera 50/60Hz compatible?
Barry_Green
03-26-2009, 05:49 PM
You *cannot* shoot 1080/25p on a US HPX300. It doesn't exist as a choice. And you can't shoot 720/25p either... well, maybe you can, but it won't have sound and it'll be ever so slightly slow motion.
The US camera, bought from a US dealer, can be upgraded by the factory for 50/60hz operation. Perhaps that's what you'd need to do. Or, the HPX301, sold in Europe, comes 50/60hz switchable out of the box.

Hi Jan, does this mean for purchases made in the US or for US residents only?
This means for US Cameras, for US residents. Keep in mind the reason that this is an option here is that it is an $800 option, and rather than have the camera come into the US costing $800 more to everyone, we felt that the folks that need this option could pay for it and those that don't wouldn't have to. So we are authorized by the factory to upgrade only cameras that we import for customers that live in the US.
Please contact Panasonic in your country to find out what they can do for you. I do know that they would not be able to upgrade a camera purchased in the US.
Best regards,
Jan
