Let me first congratulation our finalists for Loss Fest 2009 (listed here in alphabetical order, not by rank):

Acceptance
Again To Return
Ano Perdido (Lost Year)
Collections Vol 4: Mint In Box
Last Touch
Lost At Sea
Melody For Allyriane
model/photographer
Placebo
Stupendous: The Movie

These ten finalists were selected by your votes and will now compete in a second round to determine the top 3 films.

Round 2 Voting:
In the second round of voting the only choices will be these top 10 finalists. It will be a similar page to what was seen in the first round, however they will be listed alphabetically (not according to their rank, nor according to their upload position).

If you voted on an entry in the first round, your previous vote has been brought forward and will be displayed on the screen and is locked, it cannot be changed.

If, however, you have not voted on a particular finalist entry then you will have the option of voting and until the second round closes you will be able to modify that vote just as in the first round.

What are my results?
If you are not a finalist and would like to know where you placed and what your average rating was, send me a PM (Larry R (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/private.php?do=newpm&u=501)) and I'll respond with the details as I can.

When does Round 2 Voting Close?
Voting will remain open until 11:00 am Pacific Time (California Time) on Monday, March 23, 2009.

At that time the second round of voting will be locked and closed. After which we will announce this fests winners and information about the next fest.

How do I vote?
As before you simply go to:

http://www.dvxfest.com/lossfest/ (http://www.dvxfest.com/lossfest/)

When you get there you will be presented with the finalist voting page.

Where can I view the other films?

You can still download/view the full list of films from this fest. Just browse to the following URL:

That's a pretty good lineup. Six of those were in my top 10. Of course, one of my top 10 was exhibition so it wasn't going to be there anyway.

congrats to everyone -- the finalists, all the filmmakers, the mods and of course the viewers on a stellar fest. I'm in Austin TX at the moment, so in that spirit I'd like to say "way to go y'all!!!"

Congrats to everyone! There's a good mix in the line up.

What are the chances that for the second round people could have the option of viewing the films in HD? Of course, if any of the finalists only shot in SD it could be seen as a disadvantage, though they could still output to a higher resolution.

Congrats all! Sorry I trailed off in my commenting, but I had a big deadline for the feature I'm working get thrown at me, so have been swamped with that. Going to try to get some time this weekend to come back and pick up a few comments I missed.

A disadvantage if you are just looking at what the picture looks like maybe. Two were shot with the DVX100b

I don't think there's anyone on here that would be looking at picture only by any means, but that most if not all could enjoy the films at a higher bit rate, at the very least.

LOST AT SEA, for example, is roughly only about 13MB in size. I'm assuming it was a rush job on the compression & they just got it in as is ... I would so LOVE to see that film at a higher bit rate, whether or not it was shot on a DVX, HVX, Red, Sony, Cannon, etc.

Even standard definition at a full 640 or 720 wide, with increased bit rate, would be a crisper image & better viewing than some of what's up. But, that said, I also understand if everything needs to stay locked, as is.

To keep things fair and even we prefer to continue the second round of voting based on the initial entry.

There are a number of potential problems with presenting an altered version of the film. Once rating is over, of course, users are free to post full res versions of their film, but the official entry will remain the original uploaded entry.

Congrats to all the finalists.
Apologies to all that we have been away and unable to watch the entries or vote on the first round. However, we are now downloading and will watch all the films over the next few days as well as vote for the second round.

Because I haven't corrected the bug in the authentication module I had to authorize your account. It's fixed now and you should see the stars for rating the entries.

On a side note, I've resolved the issue with the authentication module. In fact it works in an entirely better way and will resolve all conflicts going forward. I am testing the new module and will implement it prior to the next fest, so there will no longer be an issue, and you should be authorized to vote automatically without any intervention from me :)

To everyone who entered,
You have all entertained me, and helped keep my creative juices flowing. I enjoyed viewing all of your work and look forward to future submissions from all of you. Congrats to the finalists, but more so to the others, don't be discouraged, I don't recall one entry that lacked talent or skill. Look at the Oscars, how many movies have won best film in the last twenty years that really were up there, not many, the point of a festival is to get an opportunity to entertain, now win a prize. The contest part of a festival is what trivializes this art form that we're all geeks for. Keep your passions, you all are prosumer-handheld rockstars.
