What is that called?

What are the "short, stock, background video effects and image clips" called that are often made on AE, sold online in packs, and are used in the background of various (usually online) commercials or videos or whatever?

For example, lines, numbers, symbols, lights, iconic images, etc. moving or flashing around in the background. They're usually used w/ voice over narration or text for the particular product.

I've even got a pack given to me once, but their name is a proper name of that product.

4. Best ones for purchase


I've actually duplicated the look using Vegas several times for specific products, but it's labor-intensive and time consuming.

I make my own. You'd be surprised what a couple of layers rotating or moving while fading in and out, or changing color will do. Expecially with some creative masking.

Most people ignore the moving backgrounds and they just become moving texture so they don't really need to be the fancy 3d rendered stuff you sometimes see.

I've created the simplest of these just by fading back and forth between 2 layers of colorful gradients. You can add more dimension or movement by overlaying a tranlucent layer of moving video over top in overlay, color, or multiply mode.

digital juice is good but pretty expensive, you can make your own without too much hassle. Also Andrew Kramers stuff isn't bad ,especially considering the price.

The great thing about DJ is the tutorials, they've got tons and most are DJ product specific.

Digital juice is NOT expensive. It is dirt cheap. Right now they are selling motion design elements starting at $4. If I had more money I would be building my library while dj and smartsound are cutting prices.
