alright well my family is going to florida for a vacation next week and i was gunna film alot of it. We're basically driving from Toronto to Miami. Can you guys suggest some stuff to film along the way/while we're there and the style in which it is best to film it all so that it is easy to find the best footage and edit later? Like any types of shots i should avoid using...you know...

Hey, man,
If you're route brings you through my home state of West Virginia, check out Blackwater Falls State Park, the New River Gorge National Park and Pipestem State Park. Our state has tons of beautiful scenery to shoot.

i cant think of anything to avoid, but drive by shots of anything interesting is always nice, if you/your family does something funny or signifigant you can film that... what is they main 'style' of your video? more of a highlights video with music over it, or more of a doc style with you and or your family members speaking to the camera?

Don't do like my mother did on all our vacations. She would film some of us the 1st or 2nd day and then 3 hours of landscape. No people.

Don't do the cheesy, shaky shot through the window. I wouldn't film anything in the car. Wait till you get to your stops and try to make it look like you have lived there for a while and you're very familiar with the location. Of course you have to pick a spot you can identify with and feel a connection with. Take your time with this while still paying attention to how long you have at each stop. Don't force anything and go for quality over quantity.

This is the edited video of my footage from my recent vacation to Myrtle Beach. I walked along the strand of hotels and found this park with a fountain, some swings, beach access and a chess table. I felt a connection to it. It was about 20 degrees with wind at the time and I only had about 30 min to get to know the location and capture this. Add music and you have something pretty special and memorable.

Have fun.
