Removing the Mattbox everytime one changes lenses is a pain. I know Redrock offers a swingaway solution but I'm not sure about whether it works with every mattbox or just the redrock mattbox. What swingaway solutions are there out there and what do I need to get?

The RR solution is for RR mattebox only. For other mattebox you need the Zacuto Zwing-Away. It's not cheap though.

Chrosziel also makes a swing away adapter for some of their matte boxes. It costs $430.00.

The redrock swing away is part of the mattebox its not an optional extra. The Zwingaway is really the only option if you already have a non swing away mattebox... Or just by a redrock, they are pretty solid...

careful with the Zwingaway. It looks as though it only mounts on the ends of the rod, so it won't work if your lenses are different lengths.. or you will need a secondary set of rods to make it work.

I remember Cavision had a swing away solution. not sure if they still have it or if it works with other mattebox but it was pretty cheap.

nimborde - Just to be clear the complete Redrock microMatteBox including swingaway is $735. You won't find any other wide format cinema-style solution supporting 2 4x5.65" filters, top flag, and side wings anywhere near that price range. Purchasing a standalone swing-away mechanism for $430 would leave you with $300 for the mattebox, which won't buy you much

Ah what the heck, buy a door jamb and bolt it on

No really, I never got the point of a swing away box.

My Chrosziel slides back and forth enough to change lenses comfortably.
Actualy all boxes I know slide back and forth.
After you changed the lens, you have to adjust the box anyway, cause the lens is longer or shorter most of the time.

So can someone please enlight me?

Thanks, Frank

Wow, 9 threads in 8 days about things that have been widely covered in the forums.

It is understandable being interested in getting the right answers, but all of the answers have already been gone over a multitude of times. Maybe try the search function?

Cheers,
Ryan

You already made your selection and bought the Geardear!

Do you even use your gear or just bombard people with questions about it?

He also already knows the answer to all his questions, and corrects you when you voice a differing opinion :)
