View Full Version : First 24 hours Stats - for the number junkies

Jason Ramsey

I was just checking out the stats and thought I would pass them along if anyone else is a numbers junkie like me :)

So, the viewing has been open about 24 hours as I type this.

So Far, we've done about 1 Terabyte worth of bandwidth on the downloads across all the mirrors, and the total number of downloads averages out to about 1400 downloads PER FILM @ 65 films.

Pretty great from where I am sitting, especially for the first day :)

I'm waking up in Britain now, and spoke to a couple of American's on MSN..

Can't believe that half of you are still online judging, watching and commenting!

Thought It'd be quieter now and faster download speed's that you b*stard's were in bed. :P

Time to stick the popcorn on.

Big pat on the back to the server genius's though, they've busted a nut trying to do this so early - by the look's of thing's. Thank's. :)

there were numbers on time fest? i missed em :( this is rad. thanks for the info!

Jason Ramsey

first time I've ever given any numbers.

TimeFest was more than this by the end. I don't remember them, but (I don't think people realize) we've had an average rate of several thousand downloads per film since we've been able to track that info (over the last few fests at least anyways).

I'm thinking that since you no longer need to be logged in to view the films and with the outside promotion our numbers should go up this time around. I don't remember what the numbers were like 24 hours in for the past ones, just that it was usually 3-4kish per film average after maybe 5 or 6 days... But, those figures are VERY soft... I don't remember them that well. Just generals.

at any rate the numbers for this fest are accurate, and looks like we're on a pace for some nice growth.

It's a little known fact that Forsman is paid by DVX user as a mod specifically to keep a lid on any and all homo-erotic content. plz dont ban hammer me!

i'm gonna flood this site with MAN VIEWS!

haha, good to see you're up and alert.

Another stat I would love to know after the first round wraps is the number of ratings cast.

Even better would be the number of ratings the top film captured in comparison to the lowest rated film. Not the average score they received, but the number of times members actually gave it a rating. I'm wondering if people only vote for what they like and then move on.

I've always been curious as to how many people actually get out there and vote.

Could be good numbers this Fest.

I'm sure whoever has the biggest fan following and family of friends has the highest numbers. Jason hit it on the head, with the films being more accessible without a name or password.

Oh boy, oh boy.

Who the hell is downloading (and watching I suppose) all that films.

I know we have about 50.000 members here, but actualy itīs only a handfull that is active all the time, letīs say 500. So who is downloading the rest?

More than 500 active members... plus you forget all of the 10's of thousands of guests on here regularly.

We get quite 40,000-50,000 unique visitors to this site on any given month as an average.

Fantastic numbers! I have a feature debuting in the upcoming Xanadu Las Vegas fest. I figure that I'll be lucky to get 60 people to the single showing. These movies in this contest will end up with thousands of views.

This is a great thing that dvxuser has going on. I hope to enter something in one of your next fests. Good exposure.

Shouldn't be surprised, it happens every Fest.
This actually may be one of the better Festivals as far as feedback is concerned.

I've noticed a small trend of people new to the site leavng reviews in my thread and on twitter/facebook, which is nice. even if they can't vote, I'm glad to know that there is that kind of reach outside this forum. and that some feel compelled to write something.

You never know. It's not the number of reviews that matters, just your overall rating. But the reviews are nice, and obviously very helpful.

I would be nice if everyone who made a movie took the time to comment though.

I'm almost finished myself.

I try, but man, that is harder that I would have guessed, kudos to all of you guys that are able to write a review of every movie, I finally made it through all of them yesterday, and it seems like by this point everything that I could add has already been covered, but I am still going to try to do it, but it may take awhile.

Its really the quality of the reviews that matter, not quantity. Its fortunate to have this forum where we can exercise or ideas on film, even experiment with them, and get a generous amount of feedback. I think this is better than rating cards at a test screening. Many of the comments are more precise, even the ones with two lines.

I really believe many are voting and probably only 1 to 5 percent are commenting.

I'm glad I was able to leave lengthy reviews on everyone's films. It makes me feel better knowing that they got at least one more angle of approach or perspective on their film.

Just an update on the numbers. At this point the films have been downloaded just under 3000 times each. We've delivered, from the six mirrors, 1,975 GB (yes, that's just under 2TB) of data ... thanks to all our mirror providers!

Can we get # of votes cast, with a min, max and ave for all films (without naming any films specifically of course)? That seems fair to see the spread and ave across the sprectrum

Jason Ramsey
03-17-2009, 06:27 PM
I will tell you that the spread of number of votes cast between films was better than I have ever seen it. I did a quick calculation on the average number of votes cast per film. Looking down the list, almost all of the films look like they are within maybe + or - 3 or 4 of that or so... Which is absolutely fantastic.

For example, if you took x film and y film and there was a vote difference of 10 between the two films, AND every single one of those votes extra votes were a perfect 10 or perfect 1, the impact on the system would still be pretty negligible given the number of votes... not to mention that something would be painfully obvious and spotted quite easily. :)

To give you an idea... there are around 550 people who have logged in to dvxfest that are eligible to vote. Not all of those vote of course, but that is a pretty strong pool of people watching the films that are also eligible to vote. Especially considering where we were back in the day before implementing this new system.

Please don't ask for further information beyond what I have just given. It seems everytime we give out more information, the only result is a few people wrapping conspiracy theories around it and creating a big nasty thread.

I promise that the system works well, and only needs a relatively small number of votes in order to be robust enough to have confidence in.

If it wasn't working, we would have since moved to something else... but, for our purposes of member driven fests, it's been working great and we continue to work on improving it, as well as putting additional firewalls, and larry's cool back end code that allows us to break down results every which a way to look for inconsistencies... Which would be a direct response to your earlier post about why it took x amount of time for the results to be announced..... firstly, people have jobs and such :) 2nd, b/c we take it very seriously and were running the final numbers through the system and verifying all of the results for accuracy.

jason

I just wanted to add... when I asked about the voting figures it wasn't a knock against the system. I just wanted to know how many members were voting, nothing more.

Take care,

MAH
