So I'm going to purchase a lens, but this is my first time dealing with lenses so my question is when I get the lens (link below) does it screw right in or do I need to buy something else for it for it to attach to the HV20?
lens I want to purchase:

Is this what I need to make it attach?

That's the wrong mount and it won't work anyway. You can't just screw an SLR lens on top of the existing lens and expect it to work. Even if you can the small chip size will cause a magnification factor that renders any lens you put on ultra telephoto. What you want is a 35mm adapter system, which you can read all about in the 35mm adapter subsection.

Yea I've shot with a friend on an adapter system but I want to never use it because of of the fact it shoots upside down. That's why I want someway to just screw in a camera lens and bam.. you're good to go. So any other ways around this you can tell me besides learning how to shoot upside down? thanks

There are adapters that can invert the video so you will see right side up.

Yes, almost all adapters have flip modules now. There's just no way around it; if it was as simple as screwing on a lens all the adapter manufacturers would go out of business, lol.

I found a web site that has a lot of information about these wacky 35mm adapters everyone keeps talking about.
thecrazy35mmadapterforumplace.com (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?f=113)
Personally I wouldn't use that tire for an adapter because it isn't a snow tire and it gets very snowy up here in NY.
Seriously...Letus, Brevis, SG Blade, Redrock, Cinemek. All would work well.

What are you trying to accomplish?
Shallow depth of field or ???
If you want a wider view you can get a screw on canon lens like this:
Canon WD-H43 0.7x Wide Angle Converter for HV20 & HV30 Camcorders
(http://www.amazon.com/Canon-WD-H43-Angle-Converter-Camcorders/dp/B000NJD13G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1237191742&sr=8-1)
If you want to reach out further you can get a screw on canon lens like this:
Canon TL-H43 Tele-Converter Lens for the Canon HV Series Camcorders (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-TL-H43-Tele-Converter-Lens-Camcorders/dp/B000NJGNY0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1237191833&sr=1-1)
If you are looking for depth of field you need to get a 35mm adapter like the others have recommended.
Or switch to a 5D MK II or Sony EX3 or....
Best of luck!
