I'm trying to do two effects. Both take place at night.
1: A man's head is knocked up into the air by a second man. Camera pans up to follow it. the head falls from the sky onto a different set.
2: Character one runs toward character two. Character two sticks his arm out, character one runs into character two's arm. the head is left behind while the body keeps going.
Thanks

1. I see it as you would need to have these shots
a.) Clean Plate no subjects
b.) Plate of where your pan will go to in the first shot
c.) Actors (maybe 2 diff shots depending how he gets hit/anyhting blocking the face after?) And maybe a new clsoe up shot of a head for new loc.
d.) Shot of your new location
Extend your set with the second plate, so you can pan from one to another in AE.
Mask out the guys head after he gets hit and move his head away from his body or pan the plates behind the head to keep the head centered, maybe use a little wiggle and rotate the head slowly. And then let the head move off screen and then just cut to your new location and make the head drop. Maybe get your actor to fall and roll towards the camera and then just mask out the body.
2. 3 Shots
a.) Clean Plate
b.) Actor running
c.) Actor with arm out
Just mask out the head and have it fly off and maybe freeze the frame depending on if the actor is running towards the camera, or if its a side shot, or just get a close up of his head, scale it down and then use that head when it flys off.
