Hello, all. Just to inform you that we will close the rating period for Round One on:
March,17th 2009 @ 11am PDT

This is 7 days from now. Hopefully that will allow everyone ample time to view and rate the films.

Once round one closes, there will be a brief intermission and we launch the 2nd round viewing/rating period.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks.

later,
Jason

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but this being my first time, how do I rate the films? I've watched all of them but can't for the life of me figure out how to rate them.

thanks for helping the retard.

Forget it. This explains it:

- If you are eligible to rate the films (a submitting filmmaker, or a dvxuser member with 50 or more posts) then you will need to log on to dvxfest.com using your dvxuser member name and password.

I probably don't have 50 posts or more. Tough luck, you talented filmmakers out there can't get by votes. :(

You have 20 posts so far.... if you watch & comment in the film threads 30 more times...then you could vote!:)

Exactly, just Briceman your way there in just a couple of hours.

1 post per 5 minutes * 30 = 2.5 hours :-)

but, make sure your posts are actually meaningful and not nonsense :)

I already axed all the posts from one person yesterday who was posting the same exact thing in everyone's threads.

wait...how do you vote? I'm so confused.

I definitely have over 50...and I'm entered in the fest so I have to be able to vote...right? I go to the lossfest page, log in, and all I can do is download. nothing else. Can you help a brother out? haha.

I'm 33 films deep so far. There's only one of those that I haven't critiqued yet, and that's because I want to watch it again first.

What do you mean?

You just have until the deadline listed on the front post of this thread to rate the films. At that point we will close the rating period, carry everything forward, and begin a 2nd round of rating for the finalist films.

read the stickies :)

Log on to dvxfest.com using your dvxuser member name and password. If you do not see stars to the right of all the films in which to rate the films, then you should PM Larry R and he will get you fixed up.

As soon as you click on the number of stars to rate a particular entry it is recorded in the database. If you click a different number of stars for the same film, it updates the original rating to reflect the revised value.

So, no, you don't have to submit anything. Once you click the number of stars, that entry's rating is recorded.

I would assume the voting is automatically tabulated. I could see a few things needing to be done before Round 2 is open for viewing, but surely we should be able to know who the finalists are.

I'm home with no kids and no wife. I just cleaned the damn kitchen. I have nothing else to do.
It's so sad. A 6 foot 7, 250 pound bald black dude with a middle eastern beard spraying mop-and-glo on a floor is a sight to see.:Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Yes, the rating collection is automated, but there are other things we have to attend to besides just clicking a button and launching the finalists/round 2. Its just logistical things, that's why the initial post says there will be an "intermission".

I would suspect it will be this evening (California time) before anything is announced ... of course if everything is wrapped up sooner, than we'll post sooner (as always) ... but should be no later than this evening.

I understand you're anxious to hear results but please bear with us as we wrap up our "paperwork".

SICK! As a dad of three, I can relate, except for the hide-and-go-seek of a poopie diaper ... thankfully none of mine tormented me to that degree, lol.

You must be glad you at least found the source of all your evil... in that trunk. :zombie_smiley: Now your place will smell nice. Get a spray that neutralizes the odor in the air. Ozium reduces airborne bacteria. I use it on my kid all the time.

Morox
03-17-2009, 03:02 PM
So what happens if a film only receives two or so ratings but it gets a perfect score? How would something like that get calculated?

Richard J. Johnson
03-17-2009, 03:05 PM
I need some ozium for sure.

Lol. Why did my daughter just come home and she went to the refrigerator and took out a pie my wife made yesterday that wasn't even cut. And she ate ALL the crust off it in like 10 minutes. Now we have a home made apple pie with no crust. These children are just too much. I had to share that one in real time.

Larry Rutledge
03-17-2009, 03:08 PM
Morox -

IF that happened, it would cause that entry to shoot up in the standings. If a film received two 10s and no other ratings, it would have an overall average of 10.

But I can guarantee that each film received far more ratings than that, and that the rating values are balanced. Most of the people who rate the films, rate ALL the films, so the likelihood of one film receiving just a couple ratings is close to nil.

We also examine all the ratings that come in looking for anyone who may be trying to cheat the system and deal with it appropriately, on a case-by-case basis.
