Hey, Guys. If you notice any problems please read this thread here to find out what to do.

IF A FILM DOWNLOAD DOES NOT WORK OR THE FILM DOES NOT PLAY PROPERLY:

Try downloading the film a couple of times first. There are multiple servers, so this will help Larry to know if the issue with a particular film is on one server or all.

Please post in this thread the film you had trouble with, and the nature of the issue, and then pm Larry R to let him know the issue, and post that you have done so in this thread as well. This is to avoid multiple pm's over the same issue.

IF YOUR FILM'S DISCUSSION THREAD LINK IS NOT WORKING OR IS INCORRECT:

Please PM Larry R to let him know. PLEASE PROVIDE THE LINK IN YOUR PM TO LARRY, SO HE DOES NOT HAVE TO HUNT THEM DOWN.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO LOG IN IN ORDER TO VOTE:

Please post here that you are unable to log in if you should be able to. Larry will monitor this thread periodically and will get you taken care of. In the meantime, continue viewing the films, and providing feedback. Larry will let you know.

ANY OTHER ISSUES:

Please post them here in this thread. Someone will either take care of the issue, or will let you know what to do or who to contact to get your issue resolved.

Thanks for your patience. Please understand that we had a turnaround time of 12 hours yesterday from viewing closing to the films going live, and (as always) there are bound to be some problems.
PLEASE JUST TRY TO REMAIN PATIENT, AND CALM, AND WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO RESOLVE ALL ISSUES AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

PLEASE POST YOUR ISSUES HERE IN THIS THREAD FOR THE BENEFIT OF EVERYONE, AND TO HELP MAINTAIN SOME ORGANIZATION.

WHEN POSTING AN ISSUE, PLEASE PROVIDE ALL INFORMATION THAT YOU CAN (LINKS, ETC) SO THAT WE CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS QUICKLY AND EASILY AS POSSIBLE. NEGLECTING TO DO SO WILL ONLY DELAY OUR ABILITY TO GET ISSUES RESOLVED

PLEASE ENJOY THE FESTIVAL :)

Later,
Jason

Can't Download FALLING UP, it sends me to a Download Error page and that "File [Falling_Up-puckthemad.mov] is not found on the server"

Thanks for the heads up...was a typo in the database. The correct file was included in the zips, so for those of you who downloaded zips your fine.

I've corrected the typo and this file should download correctly.

so i am a big moron. where do you vote (first timer)?

Larry R
03-10-2009, 10:32 AM
Because you have less than 50 posts it doesn't allow you to rate. But because you have a film entered in this fest you are eligible, so I just updated your account. You should see the stars for rating the entries now.

if you logged in to the system and still don't see it, shoot a pm to larry. if you haven't logged in, then you need to do that before you can vote :)

looks like zip file #7 is busted. Tried multiple times and it says Z0001.zip is not located on the server.

Larry R
03-11-2009, 02:58 PM
It wasn't busted, but the zips aren't on all the mirrors. While the code correctly deals with separate mirror lists for the individual files and the zips, it was missing a line to actually use the zip mirror list.

So the error you were experiencing was because occasionally the mirror it selected did not have the file in question.

It should be corrected now.

Can we post a direct link to individual films in facebook? If so, how do we get the url?

Just use the URL from the link on the viewing/rating page. Most browsers will allow you to right click the link and copy the underlying URL. Should be in the form:

http://www.dvxfest.com/lossfest/index.php?id=2900nnn

(where 'nnn' is the unique id number for that entry).

If you submit that link, then all downloads will still go through our mirror load balancing system.

Larry, it won't let me log in. Seems to happen every time with the DVXfests. I don't think it likes my apostrophe

On two occasions while downloading Gangs and Gangsters my computer went into a tailspin, and now I can't download anymore films.

I missed a few, so I'll try and see them after the repair.

Weirdness.

i've been told via facebook that my film hasn't been loading successfully for some, but stopping halfway? I tested it and it worked fine but maybe one of the servers has a corrupted file?

Jason Ramsey

could be possible. if anyone encounters an issue with a download, the first step is to try to download again to see if it is the same problem when another server gets hit, and then of course report the issue to us.

If someone experiences the issue and can tell us which server it is, it will make it easier, but otherwise... just make sure you pm Larry and he can push to all of the servers again to be on the safe side. We've got 5 or 6 mirrors in place, so there is a fair amount of redundancy.

Jason

Justin - should be able to rate entries now.

Zak - I hadn't heard from anyone that they were having problems with any of the downloads. I'll double check the mirrors, make sure they are fully sync'd.

Sometimes it is an aborted download that causes a partial play of a film, if their connection breaks or slows too much the browser will sometimes terminate the download. If it's enough of the file Quicktime will still play it, but it will stop at the point where the download broke. Re-downloading will usually resolve it, assuming you have the bandwidth to receive the full download.

thanks larry, but please dont go thru the trouble. it's probably as you said -- download issues on their end. i checked my file on a few of the servers and they seem fine.

Larry R

For the record ... I did go through all the entries on all the mirrors to ensure we had a full sync. Whenever there is a reported issue, I try to do everything I can on our end to ensure its not a problem from our end ... either because it's not an issue from our end, or because I identified the source of the issue and resolved it.
